AR-15 Question
I finally got a chance to take the Bushmaster out and it shot great! But, after about 150 rounds I started getting failures to extract the shell casing. I decided that the rifle must have gotten dirty and went home to clean it. During my cleaning I discovered the reason for the problem, the bolt carrier key had come loose. I tightened the allen head screws down, but now I'm worried that it'll loosen up again. Has anybody else had this problem? If so, did you use any type of thread locking compound to keep it from reoccurring?
Thanks,

hey can any one tell me how good or bad a Rock River Shorty Cabine would be for just all around use?
it has A-2 sights what ever those are? can it be scoped???
16 inch chrome moly barrel 1 in 9 twist and carbine length handguards with a post ban non collapsible stock,,
also what should one of these sell for?
any help is greatly appreciate!!!
oh as you can tell I don't know much about ar-15 type weapons but have always wanted one thanks0 -
Does a free float handguard worth the time & $ ? And how much acc. improvment can one expect ? Is it really worth it ? My upper is bushy A2 heavy ,full rail hanguard and standard front sight .
Thx in advance !0 -
What are your opinions about C.A.I Centurion AR's? They seem to be selling for less than others out there. Is it as simple as "you get what you pay for?" If thats true is Colt really worth the extra 4-600 bucks they seem to get?
I'm beginning to think that an AR is an AR is an AR. Just get a receiver and build yer own.0 -
I'm thinking of buying a new gun, and somebody told me about the Olympic Arms Plinker Plus. I like the price, because I can't really spend much, because of the holidays approaching fast. Does anybody have any opinions on it? 0 -
Any one have any experience with Essential Arms brand AR? There is one listed in the local paper for $650 and was thinking of checking it out if they decent. 0 -
sendra corp/rock island model m15a1?? any good appx value in nra 90% condition. thanks 0 -
I've got a post ban lower and a 7" barrel to go with it.
Should I, Can I, Or do I have to register the lower as a SAW pistol, or a SBR??? Anyone here have a a thought???0 -
Is there any good reason why one should/should not try for a set up on a flat top ar15 that allowed the simultaneus use of a scope and iron sights. My thinking was what if you dropped you gun on its scope and now its a paperweight and the varmint you want to shoot is right there in from of you.
Has anyone tried that? Is it common uncommon?0 -
a small portion of each paycheck is going to be set aside for the purchase of an Ar-15. I know there are a myriad of makers and accessories, but what all calibers are available as well? 0 -
If the lower has a shoulder stock, then it would be an SBR.
What is a SAW pistol?0 -
Well there are only a few things you can do with that set up.
Has the lower ever had a stock on it? If the answer is yes it can NEVER become a pistol. If the lower has had a stock it can only become 2 things either a rifle or a SBR.
Does you state allow SBR? If so they are really cool.
I would think about not keeping the upper in the same place (where you live) until you get the SBR paperwork finished unless you have another legal use for that upper. Having both parts can be call intent to make an unregistered NFA firearm, that is lots of really expensive legal trouble.
I also am not sure what a SAW pistol is.0 -
Maybe he means AOW and not SAW. If it's not a typo then what is a SAW? 0 -

That's all I can think of.0 -
Hi, thanks for the response:)
you all know what a saw is:)
a saw pistol is a assalt rifle taken to the point that it is a pistol.
to own a assalt pistole is illegale if it has more than two of the folowing four criteria.
1. non trigger hand can hold the firearm.
2. barrel can accept extenders, suppressors ext.
3. magazine is located outside of the grip of the fierarm, IE, the magazine does not slip up the handle.
4. fire arm can not weigh over 50oz RAW (no magazine, rounds, optics..P)0 -
mine craps out on all four
so I think i want to go sbr
short barrel rifle with my rigistration,
but im not sure how short the barrel can be
to make it pistol, or sbr,
lowers are registerd, and so are 7 barrels, 7 barrells are t3
so my question is what the bleen?0 -

There is no listing that I am aware of with the ATF for a "SAW" pistol, it is either a pistol or it is not. There is NO legal way to make a pistol from a rifle. I don't care what the media or anyone else (besides the ATF) calls it since they dont make enforce the laws we have to follow.

Well I hope those are not true since there are many legal pistols just like that out there. Just to name a few, Uzi, MAC10/11, AR pistol, AK pistols, HK pistols, ect. I know for a while (the 94' AWB) rule 4 was a fact, but not now. That is where the OA98 "vented" pistol came from.
On rule 1 there is a law about forward vertical grips on pistols. Here is the link http://www.atf.gov/firearms/041006-vert_grip.htm .
Building an AR pistol like this is VERY LEGAL and fun:
Keep in mind the receiver has to have never been a rifle.0 -
I think the easiest and cheapest thing to do is buy an AR PISTOL lower and make yourself an AR pistol. 0 -

I don't think that is correct. Only lowers stamped PISTOL ONLY can be used for pistols. Although regular lowers are identical, they are registered as rifles.0 -
you sure they are stamped? i thought that if the receiver is "virgin", then just put "pistol" on the 4473. 0 -

While some makers stamp pistol on their lowers and charge more for them that is not the only way to do it. On one of my pistol builds I did have the transfering dealer stamp "pistol" on the receiver since at the time it was not common to see pistol builds of 10/22.
If you buy a virgin receiver only and have it transfered on a 4473 it should be transfered as a "receiver only" and placed in the dealers bound book as such too.
Here are some of the names defined
(2) "Pistol" means any firearm with a barrel less than sixteen inches in length, or is designed to be held and fired by the use of a single hand.
(3) "Rifle" means a weapon designed or redesigned, made or remade, and intended to be fired from the shoulder and designed or redesigned, made or remade, and intended to use the energy of the explosive in a fixed metallic cartridge to fire only a single projectile through a rifled bore for each single pull of the trigger.
(4) "Short-barreled rifle" means a rifle having one or more barrels less than sixteen inches in length and any weapon made from a rifle by any means of modification if such modified weapon has an overall length of less than twenty-six inches.
A virgin receiver is non of the above so how can it be transfered as a rifle or a pistol? It can't. I know because I have done this several times now.
A virgin receiver is just that until you add the parts to make it either a rifle or a pistol. If you build a pistol out of the receiver first you can legally make it into to a rifle later "...designed or redesigned, made or remade...". If it is built into a rifle first the only thing it can become is a SBR "...made from a rifle by any means...".
While there are lots of rules this is not guess work. Most of the answers are very clear just by reading the laws.0 -
