piliated woodpecker/ MVP
Im laughing at you ,now. For 2 weeks Ive been trying to get a photo of a pair of piliated woodpeckers that visit a 100 yr old pecan orchard each and every morning about this time, a very loud distinct call they have,I am in the origional deep range of the Ivory billed woodpecker but mine are without a doubt piliated, the white band is on his leading edge..good luck

LOL I would be able to do it if I could zoom 50 yards with my camera.
The piliated noismakers in my property like to hang out on a dead snag that is about 100' tall. They were pounding away a couple days ago like drummers.
My neighbors probably think I am crazy because I will spend a half hour duplicating their call as loud as I can. Sometimes I think the woodpeckers think I am crazy too.0 -

we leave dead branches attached to our trees to attract them into the yard. theyve been here for years now. evey year, they bring their young to the trees to learn where the food is.

Hey Cartod, I have been looking for a good woodpecker load. I was going to go with .218 Bee but discovered that stuff is $64 a box. Now I am looking for a good cartridge and thinking maybe I will have to reload to keep the costs down. Got anything good for hairy and downey woodpeckers while we are at it? 0 -
Around here, us trigger happy woodpecker killers prefer to carry 2 guns. a semi auto shotgun for when they're flying and squalkin, and a small cal. rifle for when they're peckin. 0 -
Here's my best effort with a pileated woodpecker. I got this guy after sitting quietly in the woods at 6AM on a camping trip about 2 years ago. I can shoot flowers....I'm not so good when it comes to things that can move. 0 -

Nothing at all wrong with that photo, spurge.
A couple months ago was had a young pileated smack the front windows
hard, and fell into a flowerbox. My partner went out and
picked it up, and it hopped onto the top of here hand. I guess it
was still rattled a bit and sat there for a good 4min., with her
petting it. I had her set it down on the rock wall surrounding the
porch, and it sat there another few minutes before flying off.
For those that don't know, I believe the red in much of the Native Amer.

I have found that the 20ga. / .22LR over-unders that are (were) made by Savage work great for all types of woodpeckers as well as spotted owls.0 -
