    I don't know. It's a Springfield original finish.

    Trade it in on a Park finished one.

    if it is their moly finish you will be making a huge mistake by trading it for a inferior finish, but if you must check with brownells for a chemical remover, and you will not be able to do a good parkerizing at home, it to is a chemical/heat process

    what model you got? i can look up the finish type

    The quick way to strip it would be bead blast it. Then Parkerize it the color you want.

    read this

    http://www.wilsoncombat.com/info_armor_tuff.htm

    it is wilsons armor tuff, but both are a molybdenum disulfide finish, you probably don't like the color, but you'll be giving up alot by removing springfields armor kote finish, you will probably spend close to half of what it would take you to buy one parkerized, and loose value of your gun in the process, {they don't look bad with black grips}

    I agree with that.
    I would keep the Springfield the way it is and buy a 1911 already done the way you really want one done.
    At the very least I would just sell the Springfield to help finance one in the finish you really wanted.
    You would be money ahead.
