9mm AR brief review
I am looking for a set of free floating railed handguards for a build I am doing. I have looked at several and not sure what ones I want. I am having SRT build me a suppressed 9mm upper. SRT will do a complete job, but I am getting all the parts I want and they are just doing the suppressor. Here is a basic pic of what I will end up.

In the pic they are using Carbine length (~7") handguards and I would like something a little longer. The two things that I do know I want are a continues upper rail, and the length to be "mid length (9-10"). The handguards in the pic are OA FRISH series and they don't make a mid length.
The ones I have liked best so far is the Troy Industries MRF-MX 10" rails. Does anyone else have any good suggestions? I have spent a couple hours online looking and have come up a little short.

I am a big fan of Surefire stuff to but unless I missed it they do not make an Uninterupted free floating set.0 -
How about this?
I knew I saw it somewhere today.

I want one of those.0 -
Check out Yankee Hill Machine. They have many lengths of free float tubes from pistol length to rifle length. They are at rail heighth. 0 -
I was looking at the YHM stuff but they don't make an uninterrupted rail either.
I do like the looks of the Midwest rails but they use a standard BBL nut and has some sort of plate in the front end. I need to have a 1 5/8 opening all the way through. I did just notice that the Troy system uses the standard BBL nut too. I am not sure if this will work so I am going to need to call SRT and see if they can use a standard nut for their set up.
I am still interested in any other options.0 -
Any ideas? I got a set up Midwest Industries rails since the lady I talked to on the phone said they would work. Well I got them and guess what? They are not even close. I am going to call them and see what they are going to do about it.
Now I am still searching. I can not send my upper off until I get handguards.
Update. I called MI and they are going to make it right. Very good company to deal with and a great product, just wouldnt work for my project.0 -
Promise not to laugh now.
Here is my OA K9GL (glock lower) that I am building on. Yeah I know about my other posts, but I finally found one at the last gun show I went to so I bought it.
I have put about 200rds through it now and it is great. Very hand, feeds well, shoots well. It is more accurate then I expected, but pretty much like my IMI Model 45 with the 9mm 16" bbl. We were shooting at a small dirt mound about 140yrds out in my field and hitting it most of the time. I have not shot it on paper yet.
Now for the no laughing part.
MI is making things right on the set of handguards I ordered from them. I am down to my last known option and that is the Firsh Rails from OA. One of the big things I don't like about them is the basically Park finish so I will be refinishing the upper and rails in Duracoat when I get them back. So now I have all the parts I need to send off to get the suppressor built. Well I wanted to see about what it would look like so I found the closest round thing I could find and it was........well...........um...........a section of my vacuum handle. The section was about 3 inches longer then the real can will be so I marked it with a Sharpie.
I will see how I like the handguards as I use it. I may keep them long, but I can always cut them down later too.0
