How can we gear up and fight back at the anit's ammo with this shooting.

We're not going to win this battle....
I just got finished debating CCW on campus with some people in my class. The sheep are bleeting madly....reason isn't working (not that it ever has [V])0 -
I've been telling people this:
1) Guns are a fact - they cannot be wished away.
2) Criminals are most likely to prey upon helpless victims.
and
3) Anti-gun laws only make more helpless victims.
One good man with a gun can defend hundreds without whether their attacker is armed or not.0 -

Co-workers here are all to worried about how the next client walking in the door would feel about them if they carried a gun and the prospected client where to see [:0]"OMG a GUN". they said they would (rather than carry a gun) let the police handle there protection and they said that if someone where to shoot the place up tomorrow they would just RUN.
Chicken chit little spineless meanies they are, they would let anyone take a bullet longs as it wasn't themselves. Self Preservation has ruined this country and the beliefs it was founded on.

Democrats are in power and Bush wants more gun control. We are just going to have to deal with it until America is smart enough to elect REAL conservatives. Please remember that when you are considering voting for gun grabbers like Guiliani or Mcain. 0 -

Copy of an e-mail I just sent to my friends, who, like me, are citizent of Virginia. MOST are not gun owners and are indifferent toward them. Maybe this will help effect some change.

Please understand, I am not a advocate of unlimited guns. I am,
however, an advocate of gun education, training and more liberal
carry laws. I believe that particularly in a situation like today, law enforcement cannot protect you. And all of the gun legislation in the world, will not prevent the 'WRONG' people from getting guns. It is up to you to protect yourself.
It may turn out that this person bought these guns legally, and may
even have had a permit. It doesn't change my belief, that someone
else could have stopped the carnage earlier, had they been armed.

FWIW to the very general "you", i.e. no one specific here on GB.
I agree that some gun control folks ARE out-and-out idiots but many future (hopefully) gun owners and enthusiasts are simply uninformed - clueless? - as a by-product of their environment and upbringing. And I believe that although some folks may never bring themselves to own a gun, they are not dead set against them as some would have us believe.
While I was living in NYC, I could spot a tourist a mile away. He or she had this starry-eyed Christmas morning look about them as they meandered through the canyons of Manhattan, half the time with their heads tilted so far back they fell flat off the curb at the corner. That behavior doesn't make them idiots. Just blissfully naive to what I took for granted every day and often ignored.
It took me almost 55 years to buy my very first gun because I grew up with and maintained a gun control mentality all of my life as a result of living and working in NY.
Rest assured however, even though you don't know me at all, I'm no idiot. I am always open to change if it's something that makes sense to me and will be good for me in the long run. I prefer to think that many other Americans are like me in that respect.
I respectfully suggest that pigeonhole-ing those who do not yet own a gun may prove itself to be our own undoing over time. We should not regard future decisions about guns and gun-realted issues as being a fait accompli. As Yogi Berra said, "It ain't over 'til it's over".0 -

I think the best you can do is to repeat what you believe to be true. EMM's line above sounds about as good as they come. But it's the rare event that you'll see somebody changing their minds. All you can do is to plant the idea and hope that it takes root in some of the people to whom you speak. Maybe five years down the line this line of thinking suddenly makes sense to somebody who heard you say it. They likely won't remember you, and you likely won't remember them, but it will be a small victory for all of us.0 -

Nice post. I thought I came late to guns, and I came to guns at age 24. Anyway, it was late enough that I can completely empathize with your POV. I, too, once thought that guns just were not a good idea.0
