Do a google search on "giuliani phone call" and you can take your pick of numerous bloggers' opinions on the thing. But thanks for asking, because this guy seems to be thinking the same thing I am and better yet, has an plausible explanation.

My vote goes that it was a staged event, to try to make him seem personable and human to NRA members, not a political robot. If it was not staged it was absolutely rude.

That is actually the second time that this has happened. Completely staged to me.

cheap political sleazy trick..and the oh-so-sophisticated NRA audience broke their hands clapping.

    What a joke.

Rudy is pretty confident that he will win. He's already picked out what he is going to wear at his inauguration.

Thank you for posting this thread. I had heard on tv a brief reference to this phone call, but I could not believe it was true, that a candidate would be so rude, or stupid, to take a cell phone call while making an important political speech.

    From your link:

"An apparently surprised Rudy told the crowd, "it's my wife," spoke to her for a moment, and closed the call with a touching, I'm-happily-married moment, saying, "I love you" to her in front of a crowd of gun rights types."

I agree with this blogger, this was obviously staged.
Guiliani is a cheap political opportunist. He continues to make hay over his status as "9-11 hero," when the facts show that he made major mistakes, putting his disaster control center in the WTC following the 1993 bombing, when anybody with any brains would have put it in a building that was not such a target.
Guiliani is also a major flip flopper on abortion and gun control. Now, it so happens I agree with his original, and assumedly real, pro abortion rights stance, of course I disagree with his original, and no doubt real, anti second amendment stance.
The point is he is a flip flopper, and a phony, just like Romney.

For God's sake, if this gets down to a race between Guiliani and Hillary, I will tie a cinder block to my ankle and jump off the river bridge.
