I need an electrical (220V) adapter

I have an electric dryer and I just recently moved into a new apartment, my dryer has a three prong cord and my power outlet in the wall is a four prong cord. I have read that I can go and buy a 4 prong wire for the washer and change it myself, but I have also read I can buy an adapter from a Lowes' or Home Depot type place and plug the dryer into the adpater then plug the adapter into the 4 prong outlet on the wall. Does anyone know where I can get one of these things?

    Dave, I've never seen one of the adapters, but you can change the 3 prong "bulltail" on your dryer to 4 prong. Just follow the instructions on the box/bag.

    yeah i think at one of the hardware stores there is an adaptor.

    But you may want to try Lowes or Home Depot..

    just installed a new dryer. go to the appliance store and get a 4 prong cord. take the old one off and put the new one on. its an easy job. might take you five minutes if you stop for a beer/smoke halfway through. just make sure you wire it up properly and check conductivity.

    oh, btw, it would be nice if by 2007 these things didnt have to be said and it probably doesnt but just to be on the safe side, make sure the dryer is umplugged while doing this

    Another fact is the cord is probly about the same price as the adaptor!

    Those cords are pretty reasonable.

    Do it right and get the new cord!

    +1 to GrD - those adaptors are another connection in the path, and they heat up a lot - I would rather replace the old cord, and tape the old one to the back of the dryer Just in Case it is needed at next house.

    +1GRD, +1Handload, If you can pick you nose without poking you eye out. Then you have the mental ability to change the cord out to a 4 prong.

    I'm with kevd18. Had to do the same thing. No biggie. Just unscrew the plate on the back where the power cord goes in, and hook up the new one. Instructions for changing it out were in the driers manual. Took about 5 minutes. Just make sure the new cord isn't crimped or that the cover plate isn't rubbing the cord.

    Even though it is an apartment the outlet would probably be cheeper than the cord. Just make sure the power is out. 220 does hurt a little.
