Anyone Try Chantix Yet??
Supposed to be a new drug to help you stop smoking. Blocks the nicotine receptors in the brain so you don't get the effects of the nicotine. Cigs are not supposed to give you any satisfaction thus you go through your normal withdrawal and can give them up. You take pills for 7 days. Just wondering if any positive results out there.

Got a prescription about 2 months ago ($100.00). Unfortunately, I didn't stick with it. Kept forgetting to take the pills and being retired with too much time on my hands around the house. I have cut down----don't smoke as much. The wife did real well with Wellbutrin; but, that didn't do anything for me either. I've just got to get my mind set to quit and do it! 0 -
My sister took something (don't know the name) that sounds similar to what you're describing. Whatever she took both blocked the nicotine receptors and to a small extent mimicked the effects of nicotine. The idea is to make smoking useless (worthless receptors) while simultaneously reducing the urge to smoke (mild nicotine mimicry by this same drug).
Sounds like a good idea. She told me it made her feel nauseous for about 40 minutes after taking it. And it was unpleasant enough that she had a hard time convincing herself to take it. I'm not sure whether she completed the course, nor whether she quit (she was trying it over Christmas, the last time I saw her).0 -

I'm a smoker and like many, I know I need to quit. My father's a retired physician whose father died of smoking-related illnesses (primarily COPD, but he also had cancer).
My father tells me what he learned from his father: "Cancer cures smoking."
It's funny--until you realize it's dead-true.0
