worth it to put good scope on ruger 10/22 ?
i have a stock ruger 10/22 that i usually shoot with open sights. i bought a cheap scope ($20) but i actually shot worse than with the open sights. i have been thinking about putting a good scope on the rifle but some people say it wont make much difference. what do you guys think ? i never shoot more than 100 yrds but usally i shoot 50-75 yrds.

I find a scope much easier to use than iron sights. I think the answer depends a LOT on the condition of your eyesight.
I have a $60 Tasco scope on my 10-22 and shoot better with it than I ever could with iron sights.
I've heard the adage: spend as much on the scope as you do on the gun. But it seems to me that people usually are happy who spend 2/3 as much on the scope as they did on the gun. I would NOT put a high-end scope on a 10-22.

See if you can find somebody with a 10-22 that has a really good scope on it, and somebody else with a 10-22 with a decent scope on it. Shoot theirs, and then decide.0 -

They are very accurate guns. The better the optics, the better you will shoot it. 0 -
I have two built up 10-22's that are very accurate. The first has a Tasco World Class Plus 3x9 on it and it shoots great. To bad they don't make that scope anymore. The second has a Leupold Vari X1 3x9 on it and it shoots great as well. With either you can hit golf balls all day long at 100 yards. I don't miss many squirrels either. Both serve me well. One was about $60.00 and the other about $100.00. I have had really cheap scopes on and they just don't cut it. But I don't think you need to drop a couple of hundred dollars or more to be well set up. 0 -
A good little 3X9 helped me a lot on my 1022 because, like has been said, I just don't have the peepers I used to have. I went to a peep sight for a long time after the stock open sight and it was good, but then as my eyesight worsened, the scope became necessary..[:)][:)]

Mine have that awesome little Burris 4x12 compact on them, actually all my rimfires have that scope on them, and they will shoot, and they fit the rifles just fine...... 0 -

I've had 2 bushnells do that on 1022's, I won't buy bushnell.
my first rifle was 1022 with scope because I tried freinds and had to have one.0 -
I put a $29 BSA 4x32 scope on my walyworld 10/22. If I do my part with the right ammo, I get consistant quarter to dime size groups at 50 yards. Shoot better with it than without. Also find making sure the mount screws are tight often because they're poor. Inexpensive scope with cheap mounts. Still lots of FUN ! [:D] 0 -

I put one of the BSA "Sweet 22" scopes on my recently. I really like it. It is bright, clear and the adjustments work great. Sight it in at 50 yards, and then it is dead-nuts on at 25, 75, and 100. It is not too far off out to about 175. Haven't shot it farther than that. 0 -

First, Cartod, that's a very pretty gun.
Second, I don't know if you have modified your trigger, but if you haven't I would begin there. I had a Volquartsen trigger kit put in my 10/22, just a drop-in kit, and it made a huge difference. Dropped the trigger pull to a crisp 2-3 pounds, instead of the usual 6-8.
Third, the old Swift 4x scopes, which you can probably find used for about $80, are a very good deal.0 -

I guess I think differently when it comes to scopes.
I have a cheap Tasco 3X9 on my deer rifle, as I only shoot it a few times a year. (2 or 3 shots to make sure it's still sighted in, and 1 shot at the deer.[:D]) Why put an expensive scope on a rifle that is seldom shot?
On my .22's, .22WMR, .223's etc. that I shoot a lot, I put good scopes on. Hell, I shoot over 10,000 rounds a year through those guns, so I put good glass on them.
The price of the gun has no bearing on whether or not it has good glass. The amount I shoot that gun does!0
