Gettin a new 22

Well its about that time (saved up enough to get another gun) I have been checkin around and I think I have decided on the Walther p22. Its not too expensive and it feels good. Whaddaya think of em... Anyone had any bad experiences or anything? or do ya have a better suggestion for $250 or less?

    The RUGER with the fluted match barrel is nice. Should be able to get one for around $260-$275.NIB..

    p22 with walther laser & extra clip (A prefix)is a great combo ...use aguila spmax hyvel & it always cycles....probably best out of the box shoot & feel has been cz kadet factory not conversion...prefer it to beretta 89 & izh 335..if ruger i would stay with steel frame ...did not like 22/45 poly ....getting hard to find any good 22 for $250 with ship & transfer....good luck

    I am a big fan of the Ruger MKII even more than the MKIII guns although they are pretty nice. The P22 felt great to me but it did not shoot well for me at all. This was the consensus of three of us shooting it. It does look nice with a suppressor and it was fun shooting it with the supressor on, but the MKII's shoot much better for me. I agree with the above that I like the steel framed Rugers and don't really care for the poly ones. We also had ammo sensitivity issues with the Walther P22 where as the Rugers shot everything we have put through them.

    My Walther P22 had to be sent back to the factory, when it would misfire about every third or fourth attempted shot.

    Turns out, it doesn't want to hand the more powerful, higher velocity loads.

    But with regular stuff, it never fails.

    You completely missed it.... Let me re-educate you:

    I recently purchased the P22 for my son. It is a great gun. Just get the lastest version with a "L" in the serial # and you will be fine. I have fed this gun everything, and I'm at about 600 rounds with no problems. The only thing I didn't like about the Walther was it spits brass everywhere, including right at the shooter.

    IMO the Walther p22 is a gun-toy. Its notoriously ammo-picky (though that isn't necessarily a disadvantage), and IMO, not particularly ergonomic. I don't care much for it.

    Spend the money on a Ruger and get a REAL gun.

    For that money, I'd even prefer a Smith 22a.

    And Groovin, yes, I own a 22a, and have extensively shot the Ruger.

    IMO the Ruger is a better *built* gun, though which you like better is a matter of personal preference.

    Advantage of the Smith is its easy to take down and clean, easy to mount a scope, and easy to change barrels. You can keep an extra barrel with a scope on it, and swap it out in a matter of seconds for your iron sighted barrel without losing your zero, if you want to do that.

    I've actually found the 22A to be quite reliable, firing a variety of ammunition. Mags are easy to load, and controls are easy to use.

    Disadvantage to Smith is a fatter grip (though maybe that's an advantage depending on your hand shape), and substantially fewer aftermarket grips available. Ruger, obviously, comes with a slant grip (which I like), though some don't.
