    The regularity of the pillars and cell subdivision closely mirror each other.

    IE: One cell / one pillar =
    Two cells / two pillars =
    and so on.

    Two blocks = two cells. Look to the left, and see two more blocks.
    Look to the right, and see two more blocks.
    Think cell reproduction.

    Also, a cell can only get so large before it's surface area is too small to permit nutrients from entering. Same goes for the P. Make it too big, and the usable space within would need more openings. The whole interior would be made up of openings and hallways.

    In short, it is all about balance. The cell is the right size for the job, the the P has the same natural balance between function, construction materials, and it's place in it's envoronment.

    I could use a couple Colt 1911 magazines ... [;)]

    I see we need some help. Here's hint number one: The number of entries you get with each successive improvement to the essay forms a mathematical series that is named for the dude who first described it. The series goes: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34......

    And that series is relevant to the question I have posed.

    So far, we don't have an acceptible answer, so....no names in the hat.

    That surface area to volume ratio is an awesome and interesting topic, but unfortunately, it is not relevant to this topic.

    I'm doing this giveaway so that somebody less lazy than myself will answer the question I have posed. Once they do so, everybody is eligible to enter the give-away simply by posting "what he said." The game is stacked so that those who contribute to a good answer have a better chance of winning...but it is still a game of chance. Anybody who enters legitimately may win.

    the parthenon is in the shape of a golden rectangle, the sides of which use 'the golden ratio' (phi, 1.618...), which is the ratio ultimately approached by any two numbers in the fibonacci series (mentioned above). this 'golden ratio' and the fibonacci series is related to the packing arrangement that cells are created in living organisms (specifically plants) because it's the most efficient.

    I've looked up Fibonacci series but it isn't helping me figure out what you're after.

    edit= Buschmaster posted while I was doing my research. I recognized the Fibonacci series on my own (even though I couldn't spell it until I looked it up).

Well, anyhow, maybe some hot Greek chick with aesthetic appeal got knocked up in the Parthenon causing unexpected cell reproduction.

    Nope. But that reminds me of another reason for the giveaway: I finished the last class required for my degree program last semester. Should be done within nine months.
