speaking of ammo (need help mosin guys....)

we found a new gun shop today. this guy had everything that the other places we go to don't. guys gotta be a class 3 ffl cuz we saw so many full autos there...anyway, we bought some ammo for the m44 and have no clue what it is. i'll do my best to describe it as the comuter i'm using isn't so good and i have no way to upload pics to it.

they look surplus, but i'm not sure. box of 20 rds, box is light blue cardboard (no manufacture info). bullet is copper jacketed with a silver tip. case is not brass, looks like steel, kinda dark in color and only stamp marks are "64" and either "bxn" or "Dxn".

no idea about the grain of the bullet or powder. hand written on the box in marker is "7.62x54r 20 rds" for $5.95

any clues???

    it says BXN, it's czech.

    What you are describing is Czech light ball (147 gr.)

    It is corrosive like all soviet bloc ammo, so make sure to clean well after shooting.

    I've shot Hungarian and Chech light ball through my M44. Never shot anything but surplus. But it'd still punch 2" groups at 100yds.

    Good stuff, just clean it really well, then clean it some more.

    all we've ever put through our 2 m44's is surplus. we get 100rds for under $20. last time we went out we took over 500 rds with us. looked all of it over and found only 6 that had cracked cases. the rest shot like a dream.

    Czech light ball is some of the more accurate 7.62X54 surplus ammo out there. The lacquered cases may stick some, causing excessive force to open your bolt, but the stuff is accurate. If you decide you don't want it, contact me, and I'll buy it from you.
