firestorm mags

I have been having a tough time locating magazines for my firestorm mini 40 that don't cost double what other mags cost (good luck I know), however I had seen it written in a post from 2002 that certain Beretta mags will work with a re-cut release hole. (This was in reference to the 9mm model) I am currently eyeballing magazines for a Beretta 96 compact in .40 and was wondering if anyone had any familiarity with these enough to know if I picked a couple up and cut some new holes if they would work properly?
