Yep, but on those long shots it feathers them and they fly off to die. Those small sizes were made for quail.
?? when were sparrows game birds??[V][V][V]

...Nope, sparrows aren't "game" birds. Neither are starlings or feral pigeons. They're not protected song birds either. They're pests, varmints, or whatever you'd care to call them.
...Inside 25-30 yards, an ounce and a quarter of #12s are great for dense flocks. I still have a half bag of 12s that I've been hoarding for years.

I'm in the process of developing some loads for my M12 16 ga. The various handbooks show loads as low as 3/4 oz and about 1100fps. I generally limit shots on doves to about 25 yards, primarily because after that distance, unless they are flying in a straight linem I generally will miss them.

So how would 3/4 #9 lead @1100fps compare to other loads regarding doves at 20-25 yards. The choke is a variable Poly choke,?

Nope, not a game warden. Have been arrested by some for over the limit dove possession.[:(!]
I was guilty, paid my fine, never caught again.
Sparrows aren't plentiful enough to be a problem where I live- sorry if I sounded critical.[B)]

pooping on your car does not count as a problem

....With all due respect: When there are thousands of wild mulberry trees around, and the clouds of starlings (not a native species) number in the thousands, it is a problem. I can increase my carbon footprint by running the clothes dryer every other day, or increase my carbon footprint to the tune of a few 12 ga. rounds and hang my clothes on the line to dry. Also, the starlings and hordes of sparrows become belligerent and drive the cardinals and such off of the bird feeders.
....I don't cotton to vermin such as rats or mice in my house. (they're only doing what comes naturally, right?) and I don't stand for vermin in my yard or fields either. Waaait a minute. Did we tilt off onto the coyote thread again?

...If you're referring to me, yes. I chase down cripples. I get no pleasure from animals' suffering. Even the lowest of vermin deserve consideration as to their physical pain.

I don't chase down any cripples... My dog does all the work. I don't use 9's hunting doves. Not good for long shots. I will use 6's if the birds won't come in but usually 8's work well.

then that is a problem, i was referring to ready made excuses a single or just a few poops or just a bit of noise tends to give some guys an excuse to shoot an animal

i have had to kill skunks, possums, and raccoons, if i could not do a live catch and relocate them, then they ate it by a 12 gauge, because i must have lost 100+ chickens to them over the years, i did have a family of coyotes that lived less than a 1/8 from my house, they never bothered me so we co existed, i never once killed any animal for target practice, it is my personal belief that unless it is a nuisance you shouldn't kill a thing unless your going to eat it, but i do not push it for anyone else, if you want to kill coyotes or even grounds hogs knock yourself out

well just for your information 1911, we have eaten several of the birds, taste just like chicken, and they are a pest just as tapwater said, equal to a mouse in my house

LOL. I think you may receive the prize for being the first person on this board to invoke a climate-change-related argument to justify something gun-related. And amazingly, nobody has taken you to task for it, yet.[:D][:D]
