sighting in my ak for the 1st time!
well im going to the range at 9 am with 180 rounds to sight it in I have no idea what im doing my mom's taken me so she cant help me. Any tips please? I will be shooting at 100 yards my scope has 2 dials on it i guess elevation and windage? please help!

Well, you're gonna get better advice than this but here's a start.
yep, windage and elevation are your dials. If the dial has an arrow in one direction and says 'R', that means turning the dial in that direction will move your point of impact to the right (as opposed to moving the scope to the right, which would move point of impact to the left).
one click on the dial is usually about .25 inches at 100 yards, though some are calibrated differently (usually if not 1/4 inch, then 1/8 inch...maybe a half inch?).
If your point of impact is waaaaaay off, (like by more than 12 inches at 100 yards), probably first mess with the scope mount, rather than try to zero it with the dials. Your scope mount may have a sort of 'coarse windage' adjustment. If elevation is waaay off....I dunno? Shim time?
you might save some ammo and frustration by starting at 25 yards and getting the windage right, and the elevation just a little high (no more than 2 inches), and then moving back to 100 yards. If one click of the dial at 100 yards is 1/4 inch, then one click at 25 yards will be 1/16 of an inch because your bullet has that much less distance to go off-course.
If you're off by 6 inches to the left, bring the zero just three inches to the right and shoot another group rather than trying to go the whole distance all at once. I don't know why, but moving incrementally towards zero has been more efficient for me than trying to get there all at once.
If the scope has some way to focus the reticle, you should focus it so that when you pull the gun up to your shoulder and sight against a blank surface (like a wall or the sky), the reticle is immediately in focus without your eye having to adjust.

A couple years ago I was at a shooting range. the first line of targets was at 100 yards. I was working on loads for a 270 and seeing which would break an inch, so I was shooting groups with several minutes between each batch. Up to the firing line comes three guys with an SKS and an ammo box so heavy one of them can barely carry it. they staple a target up at the 100 yard line, and shoot several shots. During a cease fire I and they go to check targets, and return to the firing line. I notice that they have set a target up on the temporary stand at 50 yards, normally used for competition with 22 rifles. They shoot another 20-30 rounds. During the next cease fire I went to the 100 yard line to exchange targets but noticed that one of the tghree had gone to hteir truck and returned with a major appliance shipping box (probably from a washer or dryer) and I saw them setting it up about 15 yards in front of the firing line. At that point I pulled all of my targets, packed up my gear and got out of there as fast as I could- If they couldn't keep their shots in a four foot square box, I wanted to be completely out of range. People give me looks when im at the range, but what ever they all have bolt action and m4's and they hate my commie rifle[:D][:D][:D] I just hate how my casings hit people and they arnt to happy about it. do yourself a favor and start off at the 25 yd line. if it's way off you'll save yourself a lot of frustration. AIM at the dot on the target, ADJUST so you hit about 1" too high. that way when you move to 100 yards, it will be almost on target.
if you put it on the dot at 25 yards, it will hit too low at 100 yards.
at 100 yards, write down the scope dial settings, shoot the target 5 times, take a picture of it and we'll tell you what to set the scope dials to to put it right on target.0 -
ok so how much is one click???? how can I make sure my scope is mounted level in the scope mounts and not off a little bit?? 0 -
it says in the specs you listed, 1 click = 1/4" at 100 yards.
at 25 yds, 1 click would move it 1/16" on the paper.

most ppl can estimate it plenty good enough without having to use a level. just loosen the scope mounts, make sure the rifle is straight up and down, turn the scope in the rings so the crosshairs are straight up and down, tighten scope mounts. it's not difficult.0 -
I think but am not sure you can sight down the bore of an AK with the bolt, carrier and spring removed. If so, bore sight it on a small object some distance away and adjust the scope to to pick up the object.
This method should get you on the paper and save you ammo.0 -

Which brings up a good point. If you've never range tested this scope before (and maybe even if you have), bring along whatever tools you might need to adjust the scope on-site. There's nothing more frustrating than to need an allen wrench to make one little adjustment.....but to have to go home with a rifle you couldn't zero just because you didn't have that one little tool.0
