Well, his bike was left in the street. The first to vehicles to pass it didn't seem to think anything about that little fact (it was lying right by the curve), but the third stopped to investigate and apparently figured it out.

18 years of age, driver's license, and enough money (or credit), and you can buy a sport bike that is ten times more dangerous than any gun made....and ride off with it having had not one minute of training or practice.

It's a mighty funny world, isn't it? Arrest a mother for buying a gun that ends up in her son's hand, but do nothing to parents who buy their teenager a 186 mph two wheeled missile that ends up killing him deader'n a doornail.

I just went and looked at the scene. It's pretty obvious he left the bike where the bike hit the curb. Both he and the bike continued to travel for another 30 or so feet....the bike bouncing down the road and the rider knocking over a swath through a rather prickly weed patch (mix of teasel and thistle). Rider came to rest about a foot short of what would have been a nasty tumble down very steep 18 foot dropoff. Bike doesn't look that bad.

The police were just finishing their measurements so I asked if the rider was alright. "Don't know." Cop was sort of surly about it, and I knew he was lying because he was the first on the scene. I guess it's probably policy for them not to talk about it. I imagine there are privacy issues, as well as the problem of how do you define "ok" and and what if there's some weird soft-tissue damage that wasn't readily apparent.
