I'm glad to hear you're an RN.
You're less likely to write this off as gas.
    Stay well.

Funny you should say that. I was thinking about it. Im only 34 and my immediate family has no history of heart disease so it just doesnt make sense.quote:Originally posted by Colonel Plink

I work at the hospital as an RN. I got off my 12 hour shift came home and got undressed. Sat in front of the computer for awhile and boom. Chest pain. Felt like somebody reached in to my chest and was squeezing my heart like a ball of clay. I went to the ER and they did an EKG, & ran all the appropriate blood tests. All came back negative. Im fine according to them. I also had a Chest x-ray. It was fine to. Im perplexed as to what happened. Perhaps anxiety or some related thing. Its still bugging me. I have to make an APPT on Monday and go from there. Mabye I have high cholesterol or something who knows. My BP was really high and my pulse was 160. Now its fine. Good times, thats for sure. I took the night off, Dr's orders.
Had a similar experience and same diagnosis by the docs. BUT--8 years later had a massive "silent" heart attack that destroyed 30% of my heart. Keep a good watch on yourself and good luck.

    LOL.

And all this time I thought my lifestyle--smoking, drinking, stress jobs, poor diet, late hours--had something to do with it.

How about that, I was wrong. [;)]

That avatar has been making me laugh all day. Not to hijack the thread, but I just keep replacing the "user" over the old lady with "Mr. Cool."

--You'll need a steady record of your blood pressurE for at least a month and maybe have to take some HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE-

--I'm sure your Doc will tell you, at least thats what I'M DOING FOR THE SAME PROBLEM ALTHOUGH NOT QUITE AS DRASTIC--GOOD LUCK--

gun_runner, I think it must be the stress induced sitting here on the forum. Exact same thing happened to me a couple months ago. Except was sweating like crazy too. Wife took me to the hospital with a heart attack. But turned out they couldn't find anything wrong with my heart- in fact nurse (an old friend) told me they couldn't even find a heart. Went back to hospital a few hours later for another blood test and couple days later for a bunch of other tests. Everything checked out normal, so they still don't have a clue as to what the problem was. Never any more symptons. I do have high blood pressure and take my pill every day.

Mnay years ago, a good friend of mine began to feel the most incredible crushing pain in his chest and thought for sure he was a goner. He literally collapsed on the floor in agony, short of breath, rapid pulse, sweats, etc. The hospital ER found nothing at all going on with his heart but he DID have one of the worst cases of gas they had ever come across. A few flatulence pills, a day's bed rest with the door closed, and you can guess the rest.

A few years after this, I had just finished a 2-day engine job on a friend's Oldsmobile out in the street (that's Brooklyn for you) and after showering, I began to feel a horrific crushing pain and extreme shortness of breath, rapid pulse, sweats, etc. I didn't know it at the time but from being bent over the fender of the car for so many hours and exerting myself with lifting the various engine parts in and out and using strength with tools, etc. the muscles in my back and side and diaphragm had tightened up so severely that they were literally crushing the air out of me. The doc pulled and stretched me out like I was on a rack with some help and they gave me some serious deep muscle massage to relax them. When the muscles did start to relax, it felt like a balloon had burst.

Anyway, I'm glad to hear that it wasn't a heart attack and that you're A-OK gun_runner. Take it easy and keep calm.

Glad to hear you are alright after that scare. Maybe a stress test in order to check on your circulation.[:0][:0]

I force myself to do at least 45 min on the treadmill each morning as a feeble attempt to avoid or delay heart problems. Now 65 and healthy for now.[:)]

Ouch, didn't get as far as the HR of 160. Did that show up on the EKG?

GR--sadly, "history" has to start somewhere--with someone. Don't let it be YOU. No job or schedule is so important that you don't take care of yourself. Caregivers are often the last to care for themselves.

GET IT FIXED NOW...or at least get it looked into promptly.

The blood tests might tell them something, but a resting EKG is a waste of time and money unless you're having a heart attack at that VERY MOMENT!!
Get a treadmill EKG scheduled when you go to your cardiologist.
But, as an RN, I hope you already know all that.
    Good luck!

You don't, by any chance, have a bare electrical wire, frayed wiring or the likes, around your equipment or desk, do you. Maybe a lamp that's not grounded.

Probably not, but worth looking around for. A damp shock anywhere on the upper body can hit you like that.
