Texas Game Warden Killed Friday Night
Friday night a Texas Game Warden was killed by an illegal poacher night hunting by alleged automatic rifle fire. Apparently sheriff's deputies, the TX DPS, and 2 TX game wardens chased this SOB at speeds of 100 mph + before he opened fire and killed the game warden. The shooter had a hole or two in him, but was released yesterday to the jail where he will likely fry before too many years.
Just another a**h*** that gives all hunters (law-abiding and not)a bad name to the antis.
Please keep the warden's family in your thoughts and prayers.

Sad deal. I have known many Game Wardens in my career. Many have helped me get done what needed to be done. Spent many a night riding along with them. Never met one around Texas that was not a professional. If i am not mistaken, i met Justin a few years back when he was riding along on an apprentice program and he and our Warden came by for a visit. Nice, excited young man that was already dedicated to his future job. May he rest in peace. 0 -

I have lost quite a few prime game animals to poaching.[:(!]
A good friend of mine spent 7+ years watching over his deer herd.
finally got a good buck in the bunch that we guessed would score 180+. He finally decided that he would harvest that buck after he got back from his elk hunt.
While he was gone on his elk hunt, We had a guy pull up in front of our store to show off the big buck he had gotten. So i went out to look at it and guess what
It was my friend's buck[:(!][:(!][:(!]0 -
Very sad for the man's family, friends, and co-workers.
I Googled this and read several news accounts as well as the linked article. Just for the sake of clarification, none of the accounts that I read mentioned poaching (including the link provided) and none of the several other reports that I read said anything about automatic rifle fire. The reports all stated that the killer was suspected of illegally hunting from a roadside when he was approached by a game warden.0 -
Sad news, may God be with his family 0 -
I will keep them in our prayers.
My hat goes off to all the Game Wardens everywhere. It is a hard thankless job that is much more dangerous than people think.0 -

I especially feel for his family.
Statistically, game wardens are 8 times more likely to be assaulted on any given day than a "regular" police officer. And any police officers job can be VERY dangerous. There have been 2 officers I know that have been shot in the face in my county in less than 25 years and the county I live in is a quiet, rural area. One was a game warden and another was a sheriff's deputy (sgt).
In Michigan, the state police union requires that troopers work with a partner after a certain hour at night. If a trooper's partner calls in sick, the other partner does not have to go out on the road. He can stay in the post and work on reports. No such deal with the game wardens. Plus the troopers make about $3 more per hour. In fact, the Coast Guard, State Police and Sheriff's Deputies almost never operate any vessel alone in Michigan. The game wardens routinely run one man patrols on the Great Lakes with 1 officer running a 25 to 32 foot patrol boat. One man to stop, tie off another boat, run search and rescue, effect an arrest, etc. The game wardens do have good equipment, but all the equipment in the world can't be your backup and on the great lakes, you have a minimum of one hour for a backup to arrive in most cases.

automatic weapons fire? 0 -
My Prayers go out to his Family and Friends. I am sorry for the loss and pray this country will see the light and lock up those scum - forever. Let them serve hard time not this soft crap they do now. Enforce the Death Penalty within 1 year. Eyes will open then (and a few will pop).
Career criminals and those that will prey upon our society need to be REMOVED.0 -
Warpig - that struck me also. Does anyone know if it is true (automatic weapons fire)??

As stated in my previous post, the only article that mentioned automatic weapon was the one linked in the first post. We all know how often the media and ignorant public get confused about the difference between semi-automatic and automatic. It was most likely the former, otherwise all the additional news articles would have focused on the automatic weapon aspect. 0 -
The turnout for the services was amazing!
