San Antonio
Who is in San Antonio. I will be heading there for work the week of Dec. 6th for a few days. Any good place to shoot?

I'm leaving for basic training in three weeks, I was wondering anyone know what kind of weather to expect in San Antonio this time of year. I'm leaving Minneapolis on Feb 7 and I'll be at Lackland AFB for seven weeks 0 -
I'm fixing to take my wife out of town to San Antonio next weekend. Going to make it real special, even booked a suite at the Hilton on the riverwalk. I figured we'd stroll around this riverwalk and see what there is to see. Then head out to a really nice restraunt, and head back to the hotel. Next day wake up and head to some park since my it drives my wife crazy that I've never rode on a roller coaster.
I've never been to anywhere in Texas besides Houston, Dallas, and all the coastal towns to head offshore. I have no idea what there is to do on this riverwalk. My wife and everyone I've talked to just always talks how wonderfull it is. Any good ideas of something romantic to do? Anyone know of any really nice restraunts on the riverwalk?0 -
Going to the River walk on the weekend? Be ready to see ALOT of blue. The Air Force BMT graduates will be out in force. 0 -

There are outdoor cafes along the riverwalk. Its just a quiet, peaceful setting. But very busy on the weekends because that is when the AF recruits being graduated the following get their first liberty/town pass.0 -
We were down there in Jan for my stepsons graduation from AF Boot. The Riverwalk is very nice, there are quite a few very nice restaurants there.
There are the usual chains as well, Dicks, the Crabshack, Hooters,Rainforest and many more.
Many nice shops an attractions as well, we enjoyed it!!! We were disappointed in the Mercado, aka Market Square, though!!
Take the river taxi for a quick tour, it's worth the $3.00!0 -
It is usually a neat place - lots of nice places to eat and shop. make sure they aren't draining the river to clean it though.... seriously - when i lived in south Texas i went once and the river was dry and NASTY. Can't remember what month it was, but they were cleaning it. The area theme parks are nice this time of year. You should have stayed at the Emily Morgan and gotten a room that faces the Alamo.

...Near the Alamo, you'll run into a paralyzed guy in an electric wheelchair, selling bottled water from a cooler on the back of his chair. He's a nice guy, and not begging or being a pest. Buy a bottle from him.0 -

...places to eat on the river walk?? The entire river walk is a place to eat, take your pick. Some good, some bad...all exspensive.
Catch a cab and ask him to take you to a "real" mexcin food hole in the wall place to eat, where the locals eat. Ya'll will enjoy it.
...Don't worry about being the only gringo's in the place. Just dont go to a mexcin only bar, and ya'll will be fine...[;)]0 -
Plan an evening meal of Mexican fare at a table next to the River, and have the Missus sernaded by a strolling Mariachi Band. Maybe take her on a boat ride of the river just prior to dusk. After this, it would be allowable for any new Texans to forget about the Alamo until dawn. 0 -

I visited the Riverwalk for the first time last year. I was a bit disappointed. First of all the river is more like a ditch than a river. I happened to run into two groups of rude/mean people. One group had several children that were constantly yelled at and hit for no apparent reason.. The shops and restaurants on the Riverwalk have a Disney World atmosphere. Some folks like that some don't. I don't care much for it. There is a nice bar and restaurant in a historic hotel near the Alamo that is pretty neat. Good service and nice folks around.
As you know the Alamo was one of several missions in the San Antonio area. There are a couple of missions outside of town a few miles towards Floresville that are well worth the visit. It will give you an idea of how the Alamo was set up before it got surrounded by the city. Gruene (Green) is a neat area also. I think it is the San Jacquinto river that runs through Gruene. Have a good trip, let us know how you like the riverwalk.0 -

The Guadalupe River runs throught Gruene. Gruene is next to New Braunfels. About a fifty minute or hour drive from San Antonio. They have some antique shops, art shops, winery/wine tasting shop, etc. Take the missus to Gruene Hall, Texas' Oldest Dance Hall, for some good music, dancing, and an overall good time.

Oh, yeah! Gruene also has some good restaurants. Try taking her to the Gristmill. If the weather is nice, eat outside over the river.0
