Armed store owner blasts jewel thieves
R.C. WHITE / FOR THE MIAMI HERALD
Two armed wanna-be jewelry thieves in Fort Lauderdale collected lead slugs instead of gems Wednesday morning after they faced-off against a store owner who was packing a handgun, police said.
The gun battle, which took place shortly after 11 a.m. at Bentley's 1900 Jewelers, 2753 E. Oakland Park Blvd., left the two bandits in critical condition, said Fort Lauderdale police spokeswoman Kathy Collins.
''The first bad guy got shot in the head and was stopped,'' Collins said.
``The second bad guy tried to get away, despite being shot several times, but we caught him a few minutes later.''
Police are on the scene and are investigating.

What do they mean by 'bad guy?'
... I think that's a pretty rude thing
to call them - insensitive, to say
the least![:o)]0 -
i hope the rest of it goes as well 0 -

Call it morbid, but I actually enjoy hearing stories like this. It's too bad that more store owners don't take the same course of action. If more did, there would be less crime. You'd think that possibly being shot and killed would discourage the average criminal. History shows that most will get away without being shot, killed and in many cases, caught. [V]

That is the way it's supposed to work.
Scum comes in, get taken out.
Well, except for they are still alive, sucking down resources they probable can't afford to pay for.0 -
Good ending. Sends a message to criminals that crime is dangerous.[:0] 0 -
In Illinois the store owner would probably be prosecuted. 0 -

I can assure you that he would be prosecuted. Heck, the no good SOBs who robbed him would sue for damages and WIN. I HATE living in Illinois.0 -

The store owner will not be charged, thanks to Florida's "Stand your Ground Law" passed last October. Moreover, the thugs or their relatives can not sue under said law.
The law states that you do not have the obligation to flee or avoid a confrontation if your life is in danger.0 -
Good shooting! 0 -
What do you guys think about making a sticky of all posts about self defense shootings? It would be just the thing to show the antigunners when arguing the merits of owning a firearm for self defense. Catalogued by state would be even better. 0 -
perhaps a dedicated sub-forum for nothing but self defense stories?
We have politics and gun rights sections, why not a self defense stories section.0
