ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Annapolis police raided the wrong apartment Wednesday night, using flash grenades and kicking a resident in the groin before they realized their mistake, police and the family said.
Police spokesman Hal Dalton said something must have gone amiss in the briefing beforehand. "We don't know how the mistake was made," Dalton said.
Silvia Bernal, 30, told The (Annapolis) Capital that about 15 officers burst through the front door of her apartment while she was cooking dinner about 8:20 p.m. She said the officers kicked her husband in the groin while she fled into a bedroom and barred the door with her body.
Then she said both of them were taken to the ground and handcuffed. The Capital said a police officer went outside and realized they had raided the wrong residence.
Dalton said they were supposed to have raided a different apartment and said the incident was regrettable.
Spa Cove apartment manager Latisha Marshall says there is a large dent in the front door. And she said there are two large black stains from the flash-bang grenades police deployed after entering the apartment.
When officers and the city's tactical squad went to the right unit, they said it was empty.

Being a big fan of the police this would end up being a big laugh with me... that is proving my little buddies were OK.
I really don't believe in sueing people all that much. Fix the door, pay the doctor bill, replace the ruined supper and get your ass back to work and try to get it right next time.0 -

I hate hearing about the forced entry raids. I'm glad both sides were fine in this event. Problem is, if this were my home, shots would have been fired from me (justifiably), then returned by them, and I'd probably be dead. All due to an, opps, wrong address.[xx(]

It isn't so funny when your cereal, plates, food is dumped on the floor out of the cabinets. Funny thing after being cuffed, I calmed down enough to get my senses and ask to see the Warrant. Wrong address. I was standing outside with my underwear on, neighbors looking on when they let me see the Warrant. I ask them politely to uncuff me and look at the Warrant. The man with all the stripes on his sleeve did and got all over the one Policeman.. They uncuffed me and I went in the house and cleaned up the mess. They had the right Name on the Warrant but the wrong address. 0 -

who ever was in charge should be fired immediately, those kind of mistakes are not excusable. Innocent people could easily get killed by their reactions to people barging in with guns drawn (such as jbw 1776).
Given that criminals have posed as cops before to gain entry into houses (and steal, rape or kill thereafter), and a law abiding citizen would know there was absolutely no reason or evidence a warrant would be issued, said citizen would have every right to fight back with deadly force.
After all, it is an unreasonable search and seizure (accident is not a reason).
Had anyone been injured, those in charge should have been held responsible, up to the charge of involuntary manslaughter.
If the victim sued and I were on the jury, my vote would be for the victim (although I wouldn't award more than a couple thousand in addition to the value of the damages to the house and lawyer fees).
If it were me it happened to, I wouldn't sue - as long as the person responsible was fired and they made an attempt at reasonable compensation for what they damaged(and if I felt they had some lower guy take the fall, I might still sue).
This guy could easily try to tack on a million in doctors bills and pain and suffering as a result to that kick to the groin.0
