No Latin allowed on Grave Marker?
Hello all,
Last year, my Dad who was a WWII and Korea Vet, passed away.
When making arrangement for his funeral at the Military cemetery, I filled out the form for his headstone. In the allowed space, I put in a non-obscene Latin phrase, which was honoring his love of flight. I was informed later that Latin on the marker was not allowed, only English. I did make the change, but it wasn't the same to me.
Latin phrases are used a lot in the Military, why would this restriction be so? Any phrase could be run through Google to check for obscenity. What if he had been a Marine? Semper Fidelis not allowed?
Still seems a bit silly to me---
Regards to all, plus a big hug to our Veterns!

well its the US military and when your on their property and their coin, you get English. You forget the military does not promote individualism, even when you die 0 -

Sounds like all of those letters that the Gun Broker folks have been sending into Congress demanding ENGLISH ONLY in the USA must be paying off at long last. I suppose the amendment demanding a white majority be maintained in this country can't be far behind!0 -

This is no cause for laughter HAIRY, it has taken time but at long last the real Americans/silent majority/Gun Broker Gripe Groupies have found a friendly ear and it is only fitting that it is with the military. If things move along properly then very soon you won't even be able to order a taco in this country unless it is given a new Americanized name (Fried NAFTA Sandwich), which will then have meet with the approval of all of those folks around here who stay up nights worrying about these sorts of things. 0 -

If you go to a restaurant and order a Fried NAFTA Sandwich, an order of Freedom Fries, and a Molson, it's listed as a #4, a North American Union.[;)]0 -
So you can say One from Many, Always Faithful and You to Mr Gore, but not E Pluribus Unum, Semper Fidelis and Et tu Albertus? Just what is this country coming to? 0
