MN Hunter
i have an potential "job" driving up from Ames to interview me.

can you tell me what the AREA is like..hunting...housing...etc

    drove through the place a time or 2, all I can say is I've seen worse as far as being in iowa.

    all fat chicks were hatched in iowa. they might say they were from somewhere else, but they're all from iowa. home of the fat chicks.

    I have a little brother that lives near Ames and works at ISU for the Department of Energy as a electrician. It's a pretty nice area for bird hunters, and your close to Boone where there is quite a bit of history and the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad. Just a couple hours south you get to the Best whitetail and wild turkey hunting you can imagine. Iowa has several large lakes for boating, fishing, alot of camping. If you are into Indian artifacts, there are many who hunt and find alot of arrowheads ect. You shouldn't be bored.

    By the way, you know why our tree lean north? Because Minnesota sucks![:p][:p][:D][:D]

    buschmaster, how fat are the fat Iowegian chicks ? How much is their Field dressed weight ? Pictures would help. Are you talking the roll em in flower fat ?

    Just a few miles south of Ames is Des moines river.Lots of public land and lots of deer.

    Here's one of them Fat Iowa Chicks for you. I married her 27 yrs ago. Mother of 4 boys, and a Grandmother too.

    btw, you wouldn't even have to tell me where she's from and I could tell you she's from either ioway or minnesota. I would have guessed minnesota first. I bet she's got relatives there.

    No, she is all Iowa. Her family originated in the SE part of the state.

    Iowa has some great whitetail hunting and some great turkey hunting as well. It is not as far north as MN which is a plus.

    As a Minnesotan, who moved to Iowa (NW IA, Emmetsburg, to be exact) in the mid-90's...

    The pheasant hunting then is like it is now in central MN. I hunted pheasants as I grew up, and thought I had a good season if I got a couple in the late 80's...had a chance to go out in IA (in 1994), and limited out before noon on opening day--I was shocked. I don't know what it's like now (I moved 1995), but I understand it's as good as anything you'll find in the Dakotas.

    Deer hunting? Didn't try it...but interviewed (worked for the local radio station) local hunters on opening day, seemed to have good success.

    However--lakes (and I mean REAL lakes) in Iowa are...well...nonexistant. Emmetsburg has the 5th largest natural lake in IA (Five Island Lake)...I saw it, and thought..."You've gotta be joking...this is a SLOUGH!". After they dredged it, it had SOME spots over 5" deep...
