    The old russian spelling is taking its toll again.
    I have not seen the movie.

    I thought it was an excellent movie. Better than Flags of our Fathers, which was kinda directionless and wasn't a very fleshed out movie.

    Of course theres a certain population here on GB who think its garbage just because it shows the Japanese side of things, as if thats a crime. They're entitled to their opinion, but its an asinine one.

    It was as interesting to me as Clint's American version. It always fascinates me
    to see the 'other side's story' - I still like to watch Das Boot, over and over again,
    and to a lesser degree, All Quiet On The Western Front.

    It's in color & no subtitles - wasn't it first released in black & white, with dialog in German & subtitled??

    I watched it at a theater in Los Gatos in 1980 or so. Color, English subtitles.

    Letters from Iwo Jima is a superb movie. Along with Das Boot, it will be hailed as one of the greatest WWII movies ever made.

    The english dubbing on Das Boot is horrible. Its playing on AMC right now, and its a shame they went with the dubbed version. The original german is so much more powerful.
