reloading ???

tazzer
how many rounds can you reload per hour with a progressive loader.
Im thinking about getting into reloading I will start with a single stage untill I get used to it.

    Metalic or Shotshell???

    I have Shotshell, get 250-300 per hr if I really jammin, I don't like to go to fast not in a hurry. It sucks to get a bucket full of squibs

    I have a Lee 4-hole turret and do about 100/hr. Been doing it for about 6 mths. I am only loading 45ACP right now.

    The Dillon 550 touts a rate of 500-600 rounds an hour. The 650 800-1000 rounds and the 1050 1000-1200 an hour. I have the 550 and I don't really go for speed. I can load at about the 400-500 avg range with 9mm & 45acp a little slower with other calibers. I have a friend that has 2 650's and 2 1050's. He used to load commercially. He can load 1200 plus on the 1050. He really flies!
    In a progressive Dillon quality and service can't be beat.

    Some of those Dillions can push over a thousand rounds an hour. I think.

    The 1050, maybe?

    I was thinking about a PRO but BHAVIN, talked me out of it. I have alos heard they ted to bind up and function sloppily. "ONLY THING THAT SUCKS MORE THAN A BUCKET FULL OF SQUIBS, IS A GUN BARREL WITH A SQUIB STILL IN IT"

    As far as progressives go, you can't go wrong wiyh the Dillion. They have great customer service too!

    A friend gave me a Dillon Square Deal B, and I load about four rounds a minute or so.

    So far, my free press has only cost me about $4000!!

    And he got it at a friend's Pawn shop - it had parts missing, and was an old model...I called Dillon for a parts list so I could get it working, and the Fellow on the phone talked me through the whole process, and sent me the missing parts, updated replacement parts,
    and a manual, for FREE!!!

    Dillon is good folks!

    I have a Pro 1000 Lee gathering dust because of all the problems I have had with it. They are very hard to keep adjusted. I have figured out that generaly the speeds listed ignore the time required to fill the case feeder, bullet feeder, primer feeder, and the cleaning and adjusting required. I also have learned over the years that I want to see the powder in the case in the loading block before I put the bullet in. I have gone back to the single stage press for reliability and safety.

    i thought about a single stage for the same reason, but i bought a Dillon 550, and jumped right in, never regretted it, if your gonna make a mistake it doesn't matter what press your doing it on, i can load 100 rounds in 10 min, but i often go a bit slower, i do not have the patients for a single stage, i like to spend more time shooting than reloading

    I get about 200-250 per hour out of my Dillon 550B. I take my time and check things out every time I pull the handle.

    I like my RCBS press. It is a large chunk of metal, that works. I have not used a dillon, but after seeing the two side by side I went with RCBS. I think a lot of it is the ford chevy debate, both are top notch.

    If you have a C&R you can get all of the RCBS stuff from Midway at their dealer price.

    For doing pistol I can crank out about 400-500 rds in an hour. For pistol dies I love the Hornday Custom-GradeT Dimension Pistol Three-Die Sets they make carbie dies look like junk.

    For rifle I do things in stages but it is still faster then single stage.
    Stage 1: I use a lube die
    Stage 2: I have my resizer/deprime die

    Trim if needed
    I then run them through my tumber again
    Reprime using a hand primer. You could use stage 2 to reprime if you wanted to but I dont.

    Stage 3: Powder
    Stage 4: Seat
    Stage 5: Crimp if needed

    Dang NWCID, that's a perfect reloading bench. i have never seen one that clean and uncluttered. Just like it's supposed to be. I have a Dillon Square Deal B, RL 550B and a Rock Chucker. A buddy of mine called me over to his house one day to show me his Pro 1000. After about an hour I brought him to my cave and had him loading 1000 rnds and hour of 9mm. Now he has all Dillon. The best customer service. I royally screwed up a 5.56 sizing die. I did it. My own stupidity. I really messed it up. I got the case stuck and then the fun started. I finally gave up and called Dillon. No problem. New die shipped out the next day at no charge. I told them it was my fault and they still made it good. Good people. Get a Dillon.

    Well I have to confess here that bench is a totaly new set up and other then being painted has not been touched. If you look close my Rockchucker is not even mounted it is just sitting there looking good and so is my MEC jr. [:D] All my die plates and other goodies are still packed up. I just moved into my new house and trying to get my new gun room all set up. I am thinking it will be fall before I get to use it though, Fire seasons coming and I am gone working for most of that. I will be laying in on the components though [:p].

    RCBS has great customer service like that too. I have broken or lost a few little parts here and there all my fault and have never been charged.

    I have probably loaded about 8-10k of pistol and about 3-5k of rifle ammo so far. I dont use it very often but when I do I run a lot.

    I have two single stage presses for metallic (RCBS & Pacific) and a pile of single stages for shotshells (Pacific, MEC, 2 P-Ws) and one progressive, a P-W MultoMatic. I load quite a bit of shotshells, but invariably find I am faster with the single stages, primarily because I don't lose track of where I am and either double or no charge a couple of cases. I guess the newer machines have safeguards, but as far as the older machines go, I much prefer the single stations.
