Speaking of Remington...
With everyone bringing up Remington in connection with the recent Zumbo controversy I thought I'd share a couple of my favorite Remington rifles. My first gun back in 1967 was Remington Model 581 .22 rifle so I alwas had a soft spot in my heart for Remingtons.
On the right is a Model 30 Carbine. The M30 was an updated 1917 made for sporting uses during the late 1920s and 1930s. The top model was the S with a 24" barrel, deluxe stock and receiver sight. Then the standard version with a plain stock and cheaper rear sight. Last was the Carbine with a 22" barrel. Most were in 30-'06 but also seen in other calibers like .257 Roberts and even 7x57.
On the left is a custom M30S in .460 Jeffrey (.404 necked up and blown out). Runs about 2350 FPS with a 500 grain bullet. The Model 30 uses a magnum-length action so building a big-bore with one is a snap.
I had a beautiful unaltered (they weren't drilled for scope mounts) S model but it was stolen in 1986. Breaks my heart, that one.

While my first gun was a Daisy BB gun, and my first 22 was a Winchester M55, My first centerfire rifle was a just introduced Remington M700 308. It was 1962 and it was something- considering it was a primary cause of Winchester going on defense and discontinuing their M70, and the 308, which was only a few years old and was considered "really hot" at the time.
That M700 is the rifle that every student that completes my Hunter Education course gets to fire. That's about 50 students a yearm 3-4 shots per student, been doing this since the 1980s. It still works as well as the day my dad bought it for me.
Remingtons don't have the flash of Weatherbys nor the tradition of Winchesters, but for what they were designed to do, their isn't much comparison.0 -
Remington is the oldest American Firearm manufacturer And I think they have a very rich Heritage in the manufactur of firearms. 0 -
High on my personal list of "Guns I Wish I'd Never Sold" is a beautifully-stocked 7400 in 243. Man, that was a sweet-shootin' rifle. 0 -

Rock Island should buy Remington. Good combination? Synergy? Complimenting lines. Both names have good reputations. 0 -

yeeees, but.....remington puts their name on it.
dont get me wrong, i shoot 3200's, but they are rubbing elbows with imports. they want you to think they are all american as apple pie, but they arent. other than that, i made my point.[;)]0 -
There are very few 100% American companies any longer. If you choose to eschew Remington products because they import guns from abroad and offer them for sale that's your choice.
But that elimiates a lot of other gun companies, too.0 -
Everyone loves Browning Firearms but the only Browning firearm made in the USA is the Buckmark. 0 -
the russians have been making quality firearms for many decades,how many here own at least one Mosin Nagant ot other Russian made firearm???I will not hold it against Remington for importing some of them,,I'm thinking of the SPR 18 in .308 for my next gun purchase,guy had one at the range a couple weeks back,,looked great and was shooting 1/2" 100yrd groups all day long.. 0 -
I like my Remington's, also. I have a 760 Carbine in '06, a 742 Carbine in '06 (this is my "meat gun") and an 1100 12 that I've had for 30 yrs. They are like the Energizer Bunny.[8D]
The 1100 seems to shoot anyhting that I put in it. I bought a Browning 5 to replace it several years back, but after it failed to eject 1 too many times while duck hunting, it was banished from my collection. The 742 functions flawlessly and shoots where I point it. It's seen better days, but I plan on doing a makeover on it this summer.0 -
Shot my 1968 Gamemaster 760 in .243 today.
Love it still.0
