I am so thankful that we have a Congress who looks out for our well-being. I don't know what we sheeple would do without them. [xx(]

I'm not sure why, but when I saw that picture the first thing that flashed into my mind were the Jeepnees in Olongapo City Philippines back in the early 70's.[:D]

    zip -

Most of that c&p is hogwash.

"For example, as a direct result of higher CAFE standards, big family station wagons were regulated out of existence. But large families, farmers, small businesses and those who tow or haul heavy loads still needed vehicles. Thus, minivans, SUVs and extended cab pickups were developed to fill that need, since by law, as light-duty trucks, they are subject to somewhat lower mileage requirements. Consumers no longer had the option of buying a full size station wagon, even though the substitute vehicles yielded little or no fuel savings."

I get my hauling and towing done with an unregulated '75 RamCharger 4X4 with a stick and a 440 - 12 MPG, and my towing with a '90 Ford F-Superduty dually 460 - 7MPG, when towing. The Ford has 70,000 miles on it.

I only drive them when I need to tow or haul, or head up into the Coast Range to get muddy.

The rest of the time my family drives compacts with high fuel economy - from a 2002 Subaru wagon, through a couple of Jettas, and my driver , a 2004 Sentra - 40 MPG. Also have a 2005 (ugly)Scion - 42 MPG.

This is a shrill, hysterical diatribe trying to advance some unstated agenda. Biofuels can NEVER get to the point of replacing gasoline or diesel, until after the Great Asian Nuclear War

There are alternatives to having a 3/4 Ton truck as a daily driver, if you don't need the truck just to prove your masculinity. Whenever I find myself doing that, I go to town in the BBT (big black truck).

I do not disagree with the idea that we need to quit regulating ourselves to death and punch some holes to get at the oil we already have (by the way, we own Iraq - where is that oil going??).

There is plenty of hard fact available to support the goals that (most of us) we have, without resorting to distortions to prove the points we need to make. The portion I quoted is just full of factual and logical holes.

That only makes us appear stupid and manipulated.

The Feds should raise the CAFE standards to 35 mpg. It makes sense. This will cause a huge reduction in our need to import oil.
When I go to the rich neighborhoods in north Atlanta, all I see is housewives blasting around the roads with giant Suburban type vehicles, getting 10 mpg so they can haul a Pekingnese up to the mall.

Yeah, and while they are at it, go ahead a outlaw all mags and guns except for single shots, because everybody knows it the first shot that counts. I can't believe someone would post what you did. Who cares what the rich soccer moms in Atlanta drive and who cares what they haul. This is a free country. If you have the money and the means drive what you want. Let me guess...you ride a bike or take mass transit everywhere you go. Right? Unless you put your money where your mouth is...

Zipman, your a perfect example of how Americans need to be regulated by a government that knows what is best for you. You obviously do not know that the economy environment is more important than your personal wants, desires, and pursuits of happiness.

ha! my Bonneville gets nearly twice that fuel econ, and carries as many passengers as your Bronco in much greater comfort. Furthermore it runs circles around those underpowered rice-burners.

I don't understand how vehicles that look like miniature school busses (SUVs) became "cool" [xx(]
