Who here considers themselves pretty knowledgeable
in herbal supplements and remedies??? I have some basic knowledge and experience with quite a few herbs, but I'm finding very little information on a particular problem...need to pick your brains.

What do you want to know? What type of problem, and what type of herb? I know a chiropractor who is very very knowledgeable about this subject.
In all honesty, we all know how evil the government can be. Many of them have long been after our guns... and they've done things much worse. In regards to herbs and medication...
Merck paid the FDA over 200 million dollars to turn a blind eye to the fact that Vioxx would cause many a patient to have a heart attack, and die. Since then over 96,000 people have gone into cardiac arrest after taking Vioxx. Some of them, 25 year old women with no family history of heart problems.
The gov has been in bed with the drug companies for a long time now. Why is it there have been 3 cures for cancer since 1922, and 2 of the doctors who discovered them were murdered, and their labs burned to the ground? And the 3rd doctor thrown in jail indefinitely for "malpractice" ? Because all most of the gov cares about is money... which is why the AMA pays congress and other legislators over 2 billion in lobbying funds to sweep these things under the rug.
I'm not saying I believe every herb out there will do what it claims to your body. Nor am I saying I believe there's a space ship buried in Roswell, or every other conspiracy theory out there. What I am saying is, don't discount all herbs and non conventional forms of treatment. Best thing to do is look into them, and research what kind of results various real people got from them.0 -
I used to know a lot about herbal supplements, but that was back in the 70's... 0 -

this is off topic, perhaps something of interest.
if you're into the organic medicine kind of thing, chinese herbology and acupuncture is where it's at.
read "The Yellow Emperor's Classic Of Medicine", it's a book that was (supposedly) written by The Yellow Emperor, Huang Ting, who lived about 2700-2600 BC. the format is a discussion between Huang Ting and a doctor. specific treatments to specific problems are touched upon intermittently, but what you get out of the book is a general understanding of chinese medicine and how it's supposed to work- it's not a manual by any stretch of the imagination, but excellent background information reading their discussions. it can get pretty far out at times; you must understand that their understanding of the health of a person was based upon influences from nature and the cosmos. these guys lived around 2700 BC, and they make references to "the ancient ones". this is one of the oldest books known to man, and it's apparent that they are just as intelligent as you and I. or more so. it's interesting reading.
the chinese had effective herbs because in china, there were not only modern plants to choose from, but there were archaic plants from eons ago that still existed. how's that? in europe, north america, and everywhere else, glaciers during the previous ice age literally bulldozed most of the flora into oblivion. in china, however, no such glaciers existed, leaving them with the entire catalog. unfortunately, by today most of those have been munched into oblivion.
in fact, there was an english explorer in the mid-1800's (I think his name was williams) who went to china and brought back several species of garden flowers which were unknown to europeans at the time (I think roses and orchids are among those) but nowadays are so common that one would never guess they weren't indigenous.
if you really want to understand the framework of chinese medicine, read these three books in this order:
1. Quigong Meditation: Embryonic Breathing, by Dr. Jwing-Ming Yang.
2. The Root of Chinese Qigong, by Dr. Jwing-Ming Yang.
3. The Yellow Emperor's Classic Of Internal Medicine, by Emperor Of China Huang Ti (translated by Maoshing Ni).
#1 is like a reader's guide version of #2 and necessary if you're new to this material. with #2 you will learn all the terminology, concepts, theory and application of chinese qigong meditation indepth and you will see how it relates to chinese medicine. those should be prerequisite reading to thoroughly understand #3. this is some serious reading, it will take you weeks to read it all and understand it.
after that you could start reading specifically about medicine, herbology and acupuncture and learn how to do it. otherwise if you stop here you have a very good background, and you can consider yourself more educated than you were.
frankly, I'd recommend this reading to everybody. it will open up an entirely new world to you.0 -
i have a "green thumb" (next to trigger finger) if you need to know how to grow herbs 0 -

Ever noticed how a politician never dies of cancer? True! I believe there is a cure for cancer, but do you know how much money would be lost if it went public? There would be alot of phoney researchers out of work, doctors couldn't charge their ungodly amounts for treatments, the pharmacuticals would go broke, plus cancer keeps the population in check. About 30 years ago they started building lakes around here for rural water. Since that time the cancer rates have increased in this area quite a bit. Alot of people blame it on our water.0 -
I've taken some herbal supplements over the years but like everything else, you should make sure that you're not treating the symptoms of something far more serious instead of treating the actual affliction or disease. 0 -

Ann Richards died of cancer a few months ago.0 -
That's exactly the reason why. Because a hospital bed costs the patient over $1,000 a day. If the people aren't getting slammed with bills, the insurance companies are... 0
