Gas Well burnoff by my Home
There's a gas well 200 yards from my home. Last night they lit off the pipe to burn off excess gas, and it sounds like a jet taking off 24/7 now. Don't know how long it will last and it lights up the sky at night. Kinda close if you ask me!

I don't get why burning something like this is the answer. My parents tried to fill a pond by having a well dug many years ago....and hit a gas pocket. We had a flame in our front yard for a long time....just how long I can't remember. When people at school asked me about it I told them my mother had a thing for Elvis and it was our eternal flame. 0 -
Not an uncommon sight when new wells are brought onto line. The well will need to be cleaned or vented before it can be tied into a pipeline and there is often water mixed with the gas so flaring the well is a fast and easy method. Most local regulations allow for veting/falring for a maximum of ten days but neighbors usually put their foot (feet) down after three days due to the noise involved. The actual flare of vented gas has little enviromental or health impact since natural gas is a very clean burning fuel. Enjoy. 0 -
I just never had one so close. There are over 2,400 new wells now in Tarrant County, Tx where I live. They are developing the Barnett Shale with fairly new technology in place. Gas wells are all over now and most are very close to residential developments. I understand we all have to do our part. There won't be any complaints from me. They can drill an oil well in my front yard all I care. Just compensate me and I will move!
I'm think of building my dream retirement home on the family farm in Oklahoma in a few years anyway.
It's gonna have a huge shop and a shooting range 50' from the back door. It's on 400 acres so I have plenty of room.
