I am a collector and generally buy my guns near where I live but have been going to shows near the border of other states. Is is legal for me to buy a gun from a person who is not a FFL from another state? Or sell a gun to somebody who is not a FFL from another state. Seems to me there is about as many non dealers as there are dealers with tables these days

Just got back from one in Chattanooga at the Shriner's Club. I saw ammo at about twice the price it is right now at Walmart and guns about 25% higher then they go all day long at gunbroker. I was at one guy's table while he was selling some poor guy a lcp for 400. The table next to him had one marked for $350. My question is why would anyone pay over 300 right now? Why do people just go there and try to rip people off? Why not actually price a gun for what its worth and then sell many guns instead of bringing your same over priced crap to every show and get maybe one sucker to buy from you?
I think that's my last gun show for awhile.

I sold at gun shows starting in 1992 and did GREAT until 1995 when it kinda ended. It picked back up in 2000 but that was a short perk. I completely quit in 2003 frustrated. I really enjoy the business and would love to start up again but I do not want to waste the time and money setting up for a loser show again. How are shows doing now? Are they profitable again?
    Thanks,
    Michael

I took my granddaughter to a gun show here in Savannah today after church.I've never seen so much crap in my life.First they charged me $8.00 admission for an eight year old, then when we got inside it was vendors selling magnetic bracelets, toys, pocket books, and guns that looked like they had been used to paddle a boat.Is this normal at gun shows now or is this just an example of a promoter who will rent tables to anybody? If this has become the norm i'll be doing more business on GB or out of shotgun news.

Shotgun News website seems to be down. Where else do you go for finding dates/times/locations of gun shows in your area?

If you are thinking of the April and October shows, they are good.
If you want to take your time and look, plan on staying overnight.

There are about 3900 tables. You get 11 seconds per table if you want to see them all while the show is open. Winchester central if you like Winchester lever guns, though not necessarily the 99%ers. You are not likely to run into many real bargains, but sometimes a fair enough deal, and not many Bavarian nuts, beanie babies and such. Always a few GB folks around there, some of us hoping to make the Oct. show.

Rating a gun show is quite simple....
If you brought home a gun it was excellent
    If not...it was a dud!!!

The bigger Tulsa ones in the fairgrounds expo building are pretty good. They also have some in the fairgrounds trade center, but they are not nearly as big.

The tables are small, like card tables.

This October will be my first time to Tulsa. Looking forward to meeting up with some of my GB friends there. With any luck I'll find one or two pieces that I've been wanting.

I haven't been to a gun show in a good while. In the Dallas area, not including Fort Worth, I can recommend the DACA Market Hall show, and the NTGC Bigtown show.

I wouldn't go to Houston if they let me collect tolls on the Sam Houston Turnpike for a day.

The Wannenmacher Gunshows in Tulsa are reportedly the largest gunshows in the world. I believe 14 acres and people come from all over the country. And there are deals to be found. I usually walk out of there crying because I didn't save enough money and had to leave a few bargins behind. I had to walk off from 2 rifles last spring that were 1/2 what I've ever seen at auction or anywhere.
Some FYI: Wear comfortable shoes! You'll probably have to walk at least 1/4 mile just to get to the door, unless you get there EARLY. Then by the time you walk the show (I can usually cover it twice in a day), your dogs are BARKIN. Not to mention if you go back to your car for any reason.
Next, bring a note pad and take notes on the location of any guns you might want to check back on. You THINK you'll be able to find it. But believe me, it's not that easy. Comon to Tulsa man. You won't regret it!

Go to the show. Stay east of Tulsa in order to get a room. Wear comfortable shoes.
Also, renew your NRA membership at the front door!

I have been several times, found a deal or so and I got to see many interesting collector models I never see anywhere else. I made a few friends, and collected some good business cards for future gun/parts/accesories I might need.

Last show, I brought home a 870 Wingmaster for $200!
    It IS beautiful!
