Think I broke my foot
Yesterday I was moving around some rocks so my wife would be happy, and I dropped one on my foot. It hurt a little, but I kept on working, then played golf after that. 2:00 this morning I wake up with a pretty intense pain. Cant put any weight on it to speak of and am using a cain. What do they do for a broken bone in the foot? Its up high on the outside. Anyone done this?

First of all I bet you won't drop a rock on your foot again will you?[:D]
Most of the time with the foot they just cast it as is and let it heal unless it mat cause other complications.
I have 2 in my foot that on xray look totally wierd as they would not even try to set them. I get along fine with it but if I step on even the smallest thing while bare foot it hurts like hell.
Only a doc will beable to tell the situation on yours.0 -

You need to get a cast on that to make sure it heals properly. Either a walking cast or a hard cast. Don't take the chance of waiting and allowing it to heal incorrectly.
Sorry to hear about your accident. I know how it feels having broke my leg and ankle in a dirt bike accident back many years ago.0 -

At least you know how you did it. I woke up last Thursday mornng with a broke toe. I haven't got a clue how it happened. Just tape it to the next toe and keep going. A break in the cage of the foot is different though. You need to see a doctor. 0 -

They don't do much for breaks of hands or feet. Bad ones might require surgery, otherwise they pretty much wrap them, tell you to not use them (or keep weight off of them) and let them heal.0 -
yes the bad news is if it is a hairline fracture, and you don't allow it to heal, it will just keep trying to mend itself, and everytime you stress it,.......it will open again,........could go on for years. I had this happen with a bone in my wrist, and tried to play the tough guy! 0 -

I did as you folks said and went to the doctor. Apparently gout can be brought on by a trauma to the foot...ITS GOUT!!!!!!! I wish they would have amputated it. [xx(] 0 -

Hope you get to feeling much better real soon. It's very painful, I know, but hang in there and lay off the rich foods and booze for a while. [:)]0 -
What is gout?
I ran my foot over with a HUGE garden tactor.. Casts, surgeries, was in a wheelchair for a few months, homeschooled, yadda yadda the list goes on.0 -
Get a referral to a good rheumatologist. Gout can be controlled with Allopurinol and Colchicine. Tell the rheumatologist that you want to attack it very aggressively. He will start you on anti-inflammatories(corrective) and switch over to the other two(preventive). If you try to switch over before the inflamation is completely eliminated you could end up on your butt with an attack that will have you begging for amputation. This happened to me and it permanently affected the way I walk. I found a good rheumatologist and haven't had an attack since '99. 0
