Flea protection for feline critters?
I've never been a cat person. The collar doesn't seem to be working for my g/f long haired cat. We've been thinking about trying to bathe her (and of course will double check our insurance policies first!).
Frontline always worked well for my shepard but I heard on the dog flea thread that fleas are now resistant or whatever.
Any recommendations for this cutie:

Henry, our two cats are 95% outside cats,we put either frontline or advantage on them just as you would for a dog, of course you know you must weigh the cat to determine what package to purchase it works good, but make sure all bedding and your home is also flea free,[been there done that] it works if used properly IMHO,Loko[:D] dont use more than one product at a time though it can have serious side effects on your dogs and cats! 0 -
Flea collars don't work. Flea sprays you can buy in a store don't work. Flea powders you can buy in a store don't work. Beats me why some consumer advocacy group hasn't filed a class action suit against Hartz Mountain, et al, for defrauding consumers all these years.
Go to the vet and get the stuff you put between their shoulder blades. That stuff works.0 -
Frontline or Advantage. Buy a tube for a large dog, it will give you two applications. You put it down on the skin between their shoulders and run a 1" line behind it.
Stuff is magic!0 -
I guess nobody remembers GARLIC. In small amounts mixed with food; it causes the fleas to leave the animal and look for a tastier food source. NOT recommended for dogs. Works in 3-5 days, and the fleas will not come back to that animal for about 2 weeks, which leaves time to get new bedding and carpet.
Not sure if it works on ticks.0 -

I would be very hesitant to use chemicals intended for a large dog on a 6 pound, $700 cat.
I bet someone is saying, "If you can afford $700 for a cat why not just go to the vet?" Well, she found the cat stray and at one point (before we shacked up) was going to give her up and like a maroon I offered to pay the vet bill that time, DOH!0 -
Frontline. Check price on line and at local vet. We have one vet that charges an OUTRAGEOUS amount, and one cheaper than petmeds.com. Stuff works. 0 -
Ok wife is a vet-tech..
She said to bathe the cat in Lemon Joy dish washing liquid, just don't get on face and comb it as you wash it. Then get Frontline on it the next day.
Fleas aren't resistant to Frontline just fleas are staying all year long and people aren't keeping up on the once a month doses year round.
And she said keep the shephard on Heartgard year round too.
And it needs a triple antibiotic ointment because it has conjuctivitus in it's eyes.0 -
2 tabs of brewers yeast in 1/3 cup of water. let disolve. mix with food. 1/3 coffee cup should last you 3 days. put some in every meal. fleas hate yeast. they wont bite skin that has yeast scent in it. 0 -
Take here/him to Petsburgh. They are reasonably priced and they have a few cute vets. [:D] 0 -

My boss has quadruple grand champs, triple grand, double grand etc...even a 45 thousand dollar bengal and we use Advantage for the dogs on our cats...Buy it for a large dog and READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR DOSAGE..
Flea collars dont work, BUT the flea shampoo does...IF you read and follow the instructions...Leave it on for 5 minutes, you will be rinsing off dead fleas...all our cats are bathed with the soap...
If you start bathing your cat as a kitten, they will ask for a bath later on...Both of mine do and the show cats are bathed regularly....0 -
i tried the frontline stuff that you put on there back and it did nothing. i just gave both my cats and dog a bath with the flea shampoo. going to take awhile to heal from that one. one cat has all his claws and the other has back ones and very sharp teeth then we put them in the vehicle and went for a drive while we bombed the hell out of the house with hotshot foggers. then we got the carpet flea killer and spead that all over and vacuumed every inch of the house washed all the bedding and gave all three animals flea collars. they have a appointment next week with the vet to get there shots. i think i'm going to ask her to treat them. i dont want to repeat what i had to go through today all over again. 0 -
We use advantage and it works great. 0 -
