Range Reprt (Walther G22/P22 high capacity mag)
I've been working a high capacity magazine for my Walther G22. Just so happens it fit the P22 also. I started this a couple of weeks ago with another thread but I had just tried it then and it needed some work. I knew it was going to work better after some fine tuning. By the way, no matter how thick the steel looks it's thin when it comes to welding. I first chopped the top off of one of my P22 mags and the the bottom off a G22 mag. I tried tack welding them together at first with a wire feed with no bottle. It held but burned right through it. I then tried bending the two so that the seams would meet. Finally after thinking about trying to weld it myself, I called a shop down the street who has a TIG welder and asked if they could hook me up. Needles to say he did a better job than me but the inside was buggered up. I had to file a lot, then I had to file some more and then some more. Did I mention I had to file some? Once all the filling was done I worked on the base pad. Made it out of an extra follower. Now the mag holds 17 and not 20. When it held 20 the first three wouldn't feed. I know this is no big deal but today I used it in the pistol and the rifle and had no problems with the hi-cap mag. It worked great. Not a problem. I figure this little mag is worth at least $300 if you figure all the man hours that it took to make it work. My advise is don't do it. BTW they make a base pad that adds three shots, but the bolt hold doesn't work with those. I just didn't want to go that route. I'll re-think that in the future.

From a welding standpoint(if you brought it into my weld shop)-
If you try the clip again, First fit an aluminum block inside the clip to keep them aligned for TiG welding. This will also act like a heat sink and help prevent burn thru when you weld the two half's together. If your welder guy has a good TiG machine like mine, He/she should be able to dial it down to about 5-8 amps and use a pulse mode to fuse/weld with full penetration, little distortion and next to zero grinding.

I stacked them. One on top of the other. I used a thin mechanics wire to tie them together.0
