happy gift giving ritual day

wonder how much of what everyone worked so hard for, and went into credit card debt for, will be on curb for trash pick up this week?[?]

    all that work and effort to be part of the season of giving...and odds are, you gave more than you got. so, basically x-mas was a spending spree that cost you about 1000.00 to do.

    but how many of you REALLY gave the birthday boy anything?

    thats right...this isnt a season of giving, its a birthday. it was JESUS CHRISTS birthday.
    did you acknowledge him at all this day?
    did you?
    what did HE GET today?
    why not give your LIFE TO HIM now and fufill the PURPOSE of the season.

    see folks, it was about what GOD GAVE US that we are suppose to be celebrating. not getting or hoping for a new plazma tv. dont come to the party empty handed. make the birthday boys day and make HIM your most wanted gift.

    food for thought...to all this season.

    Ditto: I was just telling the wife how w/all the bickering over nativity scences and commercialism that begins MONTHS in advance, Christmas has lost it's feeling.
    I don't mean to be a scrooge. In fact I like giving. But even now that I have prospered to a financial position where I can give more. I long for the days when giving/receiving was secondary to the meaning of the season.
    It's almost like once a year you have to compile a list of people, many of whom you have limited contact with. Who have their hand out and EXPECT something. And it better not be cheap. (are there any cheap gifts available anymore anyway?). I prefer a cheap gift that I know the giver had put some thought into and did the best they could.
    A toy truck won't cut it for kids like it did w/us. Gotta have a $50. (at least) video game.
    Most people I have no idea what to buy them because they usually buy for themselves all that they want. Just giving money is an easy, but IMO impersonal solution.
    Then there's the "early gifts" to people who conive a way to not have to wait. Or need an expensive item that is too big or needed too soon to wait.
    It's all become a commercialized impersonal PITA that bears little reverance for the true meaning.
    IMO the most enjoyable part is the family Christmas dinner.

    The most enjoyable and best part of the season is not the giving OR getting of gifts....The absolute best is being with the special people or person who loves you and you love...There is nothing in the world to replace that feeling....Nothing..

    Family and Friends getting together....Gathering at our church to praise God and reflect upon what the season is truly about. Memories of family and friends from Christmas past. Making new memories with my children. That is what Christmas is all about.

    My life's already His, and today, like every day, I gave thanks for that. So far as gifts go -- by any material standard in this country I would be considered poor, so gifts get made by hand or aren't given at all. The only poverty that matters, though, is poverty of the soul and spirit. By that standard I want for nothing.
