tell me about BellSouth

Please bare with me, I have always rented and am now a first time home buyer. My fiance and I close on our new home tomorrow! I have lots of questions for ya'll though

I am looking at internet and cable providers for my new home. The only thing I have found is BellSouth. They have 4 or 5 DSL plans (some faster than other I guess?) and Direct TV. I have never had DSL or Direct TV so tell me about your experiences with them. I can get the home phone (local calling only), the second fastest DSL hook up (I think it is called DSL Extreme) and basic Direct TV (with over 100 channels) for $95/month. Is this a good deal

My new house is in the cable dead spot. We had Time Warner in the area but it is being bought out by Comcast and they are not providing service yet.

I don't know what to do. Help me out here!

  We had the same situation, different company - Bought the package... but you will likely find that the Direct TV package doesn't include the channels you want most. They won't negotiate with you, so you will pay $20 - $30 more per month.

  Kind of a catch 22 here. I prefer Comcast for internet but Dish for T.V. Bellsouth is in the middle of a merge with AT&T and there service may be spotty but if it's your only choice right now, get the Extreme and Direct tv for $95. When comcast gets to you, go cable internet and keep the dish for tv. See if bellsouth will give you the deal for a one year contract instead of the two. They will deal, and you may be able to talk them into more.

  I started callin BellSouth, Taco BellSouth after calling their tech support a couple of times. They were pretty good, the only problems had was with their wiring job. They usually dandelion it through your house (however it might already be wired up for it)their copper wires are a single filiment and seem to be brittle and they twist them together. Sometimes they start to break (this was the problem I had)and it makes the service come and go or not work it all. So what I did was check the wiring job where the line came to the first phone jack found a broken wire not even connected to anything, problem solved. It worked great after that.
