Help, relocating well water pump

I'm need to relocate my well water pump about 20 feet because of remodeling issues. Is it as simple as cutting pipe relocating, repiping, and starting it up? Or, do I need to prime it or something else to get it to pump again? It is a Sta-rite 1 1/2 hp horizontal multistage jet pump model #HMSF-1FL. The well is about 100ft away and about 100 ft deep.

    I don't know your setup but: If there is a (working) foot valve or check valve in your suction line close to the pump it should prime it's self. It won't hurt to fill the pump with water just before you kick it on. How far down is your water table? You need to add a check valve close to your pump if there is none that you can see.

    Before you relocate it fill you a couple of 5 gal. buckets with water just in case you need it.

    My well is 225' deep, water table is @ 12'. I pull off 2" PVC with a check 12" above my slab. A check here will always keep the water at slab level.

    And while ur repiping this, on your suction line going to the pump, install a check and a Tee. Install the Tee where you 90 out to your pump and on the top part of your Tee add a nipple and a gate valve (of good quality) This is now used for my picture (sp) pump when out of ele.

    I just replaced my well pump a week ago and installed a new foot valve at the bottom of the well and new check valve at the new pump.
    I filled the pump and about 4' of pipe above it and it took a while to get the water pumping but it did.
    This new pump and valves are excellent and 100% better then what I had been fighting over the last 2 years for a pump system.

    Thanks for the responses. I have a 100 ft horizontal run 1 ft under gound., there must be a check valve someplace. the system works fine Don't know where the checkvalve is. Should I add one near the pump? I will be doing it one day this week. I'll let you know.

    My well is 150' and 4" submersible pump. Kinda hard to relocate my pump.

    Around here water lines have to be 4' underground. Well water exits the well 4' underground and then goes into a well house. The bladder tank is in the well house, controls, and valves. The well house is mostly underground to prevent freezing.

    Outside hose valves are either inside the house foundation, or 4' underground. They use what they call hydrant valves for water lines that drain all the water back down into the ground. When it freezes there is no water in the above ground pipe to split the pipe.

    Yes it's simple enough to do, just like you said and them prime it before you turn the pump back on. Their should be a bolt to undo on the top of the pump. Take that off and fill the pump with water screw the bolt back in with some teflon tape and turn your pump on. Don't forget to turn the power off to the pump before you start working on it.

    I'm in central Florida, one ft underground is safe from freezing.

    My well pump just has a foot valve, and no "check valve" before the pump. Used to have the old above ground well and tank, that had to be primed every time it was worked on. Now i have what is supposed to be a submersible pump, and a bladder tank in the house, and it don't have to be primed after being down for awhile.

    Kinda funny how this guy installed the "submersible" pump. He mounted the pump on ToP of the well casing, then ran pipe/foot valve down into the water...?
    It's worked very well though for about 16yrs now, but will tend to freeze in extreme cold if we don't leave a drip/trickle going in the house.

    Once you re plumb it up to the new location, fill the suction pipe to the top,If it "never" gets full, their is no check.Once it's filled to the top, let it sit for 30 min. and look to see if the level is still topped off.If it stays up, your check valve is good. If it goes down, it is not.Check valves are to be installed AT THE WELL-HEAD!That leaves a column of water to SEAT the check!Properly operating check valve will hold water at pump level, no matter where it is.2 stage pumps not only push water, they also "pull".Just fill the pump before starting, and if no water in 5 min. Fill again.If you've filled the suction line before replumbing the pump, it should grab in seconds..
    How do i know all this? 27 years in the irrigation Business qualifies me.[:D]
