Email From Travis, In Kuwait
Just got here, I dunno, seven hours ago. As expected, I didn't know what
time my bus to the runway would be until about two hours prior. Then I
waited in the holding area for another two hours or so and got on this C17,
I think. Freakin' nice, by the way. Like a slightly larger C130 with seats
like a commercial airliner. But it was equally loud and turbulent as its
predecessor. Then I had to sit and be patronized by some POG lady who makes
the same combat pay and such for chilling in KUWAIT. "Make yadayada copies
of your DA31. Put your last name and first name on like yadayada. Turn in
your ID card, pick up your ID card. Last four, last four, last four. Go
out there, take a right, there will be a big sign by the tent that says IBA.
Turn in your IBA and kevlar there. The tents are on my right, your left.
You'll receive your billeting brief by this other overpaid tool." Ugh. But
yeah, now I'm just waiting to go back there at 0600 (Central Time Zone+8
here) and hopefully get on a plane soon to Germany then on over to DFW. I
guess I'll sleep on the plane. Yeah. Later

Good to hear he is on the way!!! Even if it is a long and aggrivating journey....he will be here for you to show off (we want pics when you can.....hint hint.) 0 -
Hope he has a safe trip. Those plane trips suck. 0 -

When I think of those Brave American Men, my heart just swells with pride.

He probably shouldn't be so hard on that POG lady. She's just doing her job. That she's not getting shot at doing it is not her fault.
But all in all, it's good he's doin' good and in good enough health and spirits to grouse about stuff.[;)][:D]0 -
If the troops ain't bi**hin'', they ain't breathin'.

That's sort of like what we use to say. "If it ain't raining, we ain't training. And if it ain't snowin', we ain't going!"0 -

Correct, but I reckon them that are up front catching hell have always felt set apart from those that are in the rear with the gear.
If I have had one, I have had a hundred people comment on Travis' choice. "Why Army?" "Why Infantry?" "Why volunteer for Iraq?" "Why didn't you get him to join the Air Force?" Well, screw all that. I am proud of my soldier. He figures if he is going to serve, he might as well try to be where he can do some good instead of just marking time.0 -

A friend of mine said he didn't care if they were in the s*** or in the rear with the gear, since they were all wearing the same uniform. He reserved his venom for hippies.

You should be proud of your soldier. The only question I have is why would anyone want a parent to steer their kid into the Chair Force?
Just giving you jet jockeys some grief. Chill. [;)]0 -

You should be proud of him. He got off his ass and did something that he felt needed doing.
We should all have similar convictions and the will to enact them.0 -
