Buying a gun in MN

I am going up to hunt with my buddy in MN. I don't want to go thru the hassle of carrying my rifle with me. I want to send him some $ and have him buy a rifle for me, and just leave it up there.

Is this legal?

I am from FL where the gun laws are extremely lax, compared to the norther states and I have no idea.

I am just looking for a cheap scoped 30/06, 308, 270 (or similar), to hunt with ~5 days a year.

    NO, this would probably be considered a straw purchase.

    Being that its a long rifle, you shouldn't have any problem buying a gun when you get there. Maybe set a shop up with a down payment to have what you want there.

    What if you give your buddy the cash, as a present.
    He buys the rifle, he now owns two rifles.
    I can't see a problem with you borrowing your friend's rifle when you go hunting.

    As long as the paper work is in your buddy's name, and the weapon is at his home, for all intents and purposes, I think it would be considered to be his.

    Look at it this way: if the two of you became enemies and you wanted your rifle, how would you force him to give it to you if he didn't want to??? If YOU can't prove it is yours, how could anyone else??

    ...The first question on #4473 asks if you are the actual buyer. If your buddy buys it (rifle) with the intention/knowing it's not for him, but for you; you both just broke the law.

    ...I don't see the hassle of carrying your own rifle, either flying or driving. I can't imagine going on a hunt with something other than what I hunt with, and am used to shooting. I have a couple of "favorite" rifles that I always take hunting and would not dream of leaving at home...[;)]

    We have been friends for +30yrs. He isn't going to screw me over.
    Straw Purchase - I expected that there was some sort of rule/law to cover this sort of purchase.

    Can I UPS one of my guns to his house for me to use? My other thought is to bring a gun with me, and just leave it at his home for next year.

    I am being truely honest about my intentions. He has a spare rifle for me to use, but I just don't like using other people's stuff, because stuff happens.

    No problem to send it UPS. If it were me, though, I'd just take it along with me.

    Mail your rifle to yourself in care of your buddy at his address. This is legal for you to do. However he is not allowed to open the package, it must be kept unopened until you arrive. Then when you leave to go home you can either leave it at his house or mail it back home to yourself. Federal law allows you to mail your firearm to yourself in another state.

    Give me a holler. Might could make an arrangement via a private sale. I'm from MN. I may or may not know someone who keeps guns at a safe at his family's place in the fine state of MN and might could help you out.

    Depending on where you are flying out of (and into, etc) actually taking a rifle with you may decrease the pain of dealing with the TSA.... just print the TSA regs and the regs on whatever airline you are travelling on...

    My experience is that anyone waiting in line to check luggage who possesses a firearm in an obvious gun case (locked of course) will be immediately brought to the front of the line and sent on their merry way before everyone else.

    However, my offer to facilitate a private in-state purchase still stands.

    they MUST be UNLOCKED...until they are checked and the TSA agents have verified it is in fact unloaded, and they will do a pat down of the foam. at that point, either they will lock it, or they will watch you lock it...

    there are no regs. as long as its unloaded, and in a LOCKABLE case, you'll be 100% perfectly fine (if you leave the country, its simply a 5minute form with the customs agaent to register your gun.)
