Best Way to Ship Two Rifles
So I am going to Minnesota in late Sept to visit family and do some hunting. I will be driving there across country. I only want to take one gun with me in the car and have my dad ship me two guns when I arrive.
I was thinking putting the two rifles in a typical plastic hard cover case that is padded and then put that case in a cardboard shipping box. I found a box that is almost a perfect fit for the carrying case. So a few questions questions...
Who is the best shipper ? UPS, USPS , Fedex ?
Do I have to declare they are guns ?
Does the owner of the guns have to ship or can my dad do it ?
Is it safe to ship firearms ?

That depends on the laws in Minnesota, but I'll answer you the best I can for Tennessee.
The guns are already yours, you don't have to receive them through an FFL holder, you already did that when you bought them.
USPS is the best way to ship if you can find a clerk who knows the law so you don't have to have a court meeting and hire a lawyer to convince him it's legal.
Your dad will have to tell the PO clerk what is in the package and sign a statement saying they are not loaded(Not the law, but it can be required by the clerk). However the box must NOT be marked as having firearms inside.
Your dad can do it. He can send them but not receive them.
Every seller on the GB auction does it all the time. Usually it's entirely safe and goes without a hitch. Thousands of guns..maybe millions have been shipped for more years than we can even imagine.
Have your dad pack them well, being sure they aren't loaded, no firearm markings on the outside of the package, take the package to the USPO, hope you don't run into an idiot know nothing, know everything clerk, give him a handwritten note that says these guns are not loaded, signed by your dad.
That is the whole and complete requirement set by the US government in your particular situation. It wouldn't hurt to go to the USPS website and print out their own rules so your dad can show the clerk he's stupid when he refuses to accept the package. Also, this doesn't take into consideration the rules in Minnesota. I don't know anything about those.0 -
I have mailed several long guns through USPS, and never had to tell them what the package contained. It's really none of their business, they are simply the delivery service. Be sure to insure the h___ out of them, too. 0
