In general we expect everyone to act like adults and to show respect for each other, just as you would if the other parties were guests in your home. If you are looking for an unmoderated free-for-all you will not be at home here.

p3skyking- I don't think your analogies work. Very few doctors perform abortions and I assume you don't support them. Very few police officers commit acts of brutality, and I assume you don't support them, either. So it's possible to support doctors and cops in general since so few participate in the activities with which you disagree.
But all soldiers fight the war in one way or another. Fighting is what they do, it's their reason for existing so IMO it's harder to separate the soldiers from what they do.
Mostly my complaint is with the false piety. Most of the people (and certainly all of the politicians) who make moon eyes and swear their loyalty to the troops are lying. I don't for one moment believe those Congressional Democrats who say they support the troops because they never have in the past and only do so now for political posturing. All you have to do is listen to the rhetoric about how U.S. soldiers act like Nazis, or terrorists to know how these people really feel.
I have no problem with someone being honest and saying that they disagree with the reasons for the war or that they favor getting out. But it strikes me as hypocritical to say you support the troops while denouncing the mission that most of them seem to support.
This is likely one of those issues where there is definitive answer. It's all perception and personal belief.0 -

I'm as pro-military as they come. I think most of us on here are, especially the ones that actually served a decade or more out of our lives. Do I agree with everything the CinC directs? Hell no, but he's the CinC and you try to your utmost to accomplish the assigned mission.
One need only look at history to see the failures in civilian leadership:
The Civil War
The Spanish American War
Internment of the Americans of Japanese origin
The Tuskeegee syphlis research
Agent Orange denial for VN vets
Gulf War Syndrome for Gulf vets
The list can go on awhile, but for what purpose? I do feel that once committed, we should carry out the mission, but again, the civilian leadership is failing to allow the total warfighting capability of the US Military to superceed PC considerations. It WWII, historic Monte Casino and the city of Dresden were bombed out of existance. Terrible, but it did allow eventual victory. If we need to make war so bad, then let's make war.0 -

There in lies half the problem. They fight. The military is supposed to fight with overwhelming force and take ground. Not occupy all the ground and settle skirmishes that flare up. That's police work. They're only a buffer between civility and chaos, that now, can't be pulled out without opening the flood gates. Apparently armed and trained Iraqis will never be able to operate as an armed and trained US soldier.
I don't agree with the build up. I don't believe there's enough resistance left after this many years for more people to fight. Once you've ridden the bike with training wheels for so many years, eventually you have to take the training wheels off. Not add another set to the front. In other words, it's time for this Iraqi force to step up.
All I can think of is that the proposed build up is actually in preperation to invade Iran. Which, might be called for if this is where new fighters are coming from and if it would help stabilize Iraq.
The political climate in this country has left me at a loss for words. Does ANYBODY feel that we're actually being LED right now? I don't want to have to figure out, debate, and discuss this every day. It isn't my job. I wish they were just proceeding with a plan! In one direction or another. Do something. Advance or come home. But no, the American people have spoken and they're sick of Bush so lets penalize him by electing more democrats into office to fight with him. "We don't know what they're actually going to DO or vote for, but by God Bush isn't going to have his way." Well, now we're left with what we've got. A total joke.0
