Powerball winner----broke!
This bird brain won the largest undivided jackpot (Powerball) in history--$314 million in 2002. Took a payout of $113+ million and now doesn't have a pot to pee in. Blew it all!

I remember a few of the incidents making the news; i.e. the robberies and the death at least. 0 -
It is a POWERFUL lesson. Wealth not earned is a curse. His life has been hell on earth since winning. Wealth earned is wealth shared. it has a strange way of working out. 0 -

This guy was doomed from the start. You can't win that much money, stay in the same area, answer your door, and open your mail like everyone else. The key would be to buy a huge acerage in a remote location, put your mansion smack dab in the middle of it and surround it by fence, vegetation and dobermans. Also, multiple residences around the country, not the county! Then stay as low key as possible, sending people on errands for you while you enjoy life playing with expensive toys back at the ranch or on vacation. For him not to be able to see all the things coming that happened to him shows a severe lack of intelligence. This stuff happens all the time. There's plenty of people to learn lessons from. Apparently this guy had a severe lack of self-esteem or self-worth to want all that attention.
I guess when you have no life beyond work, meaning no real hobbies or interests, then the void gets filled with gambling, booze, drugs and strip bars. What a waste! Any DA can do that! The potential they had with that much money, to do and have all of the extraordinary things in life is mind boggling! Not just fancy cars clothes and bs. But their minds were so closed and so small, unable to really appreciate what had happend and what's out there available to them, that they threw it away. And the guy will go down in history as a dope that fell into money, became a loser, and died. Pretty sad.
I read the whole article and I didn't see where it said he's broke. For sure he blew most of it but it just said the money cost him 'dearly'. The article makes me sick. It just shows what happens when complete morons fall into money. You can't tell me that someone who actually had hobbies, interests and enjoyed life, is going to get hooked on drugs. Maybe I'm wrong, but I know I'd find so much to do that the only danger I'd be in would probably be from sleep deprivation. In the beginning anyway. Screw the drugs and booze. I'd have personal trainers, dietitians, advanced technology and a team of doctors helping me live to 105!0 -

These simple goals for your "perfect" life are attainable right now. It's determination and willpower.
You wanna make it big, and look back nicely at your blink of time on earth?
Set your goals, and figure out how to make them with the money you have.0 -
That was a good read hope they make movie about that! 0 -
vess1. I doubt he's broke either! His net worth was about 3 million before he hit that jackpot. He was a ding before too!
Some of these storys about lottery winners sure do put the truth to the old saying "money ain't everything" though!
lot of people think "if I could just hit that lottery everything'll be alright" it's the worst thing that could happen to anyone! Your name and address is out there for millions of people to hear, shirtail relatives crawing out of the woodwork, dings wanting gifts of cash, friends that you were comfortable around are no longer comfortable around you, Truth is any more money than you need is a burden!
No I didn't hit the lottery! But I did receive a settlement from a work related injury that some folks considered large. (it wasn't) and couldn't believe that some of my inlaws thought that I should "help them out" (swmbo just hadda run that mouth) and to this day (8 yrs now) are still pizzed because I didn't! (good riddance) they are useless anyway. But the unmitigated gall of some jerk that wouldn't work in a pie factory thinking he could move in with me and expect me to feed him, clothe him,and subsidise his lifestyle of laying around drunk and/or stoned still gets me red! (These types don't just think they are "owed" something they believe it with all their heart and soul!)
Word now is that I "took a hit" after 9/11 and lost almost everything! [}:)]
Fact is that everything is tied up in long term investments and real estate and couldn't be touched without taking a loss. I live comfortably on less than $1000 a month and don't need any more than that! I'm alive and breathing and can watch the sun come up in the morning and hear the world wake up around me! Funny how important the little things become after you find out how short and fragile life is! [8D]
Trivia. The state of WV. was very concerned that "organized crime" didn't get a foothold on their lottery when they were first starting it up. After much searching they finally chose a company to run it that met all the criteria and safeguards. This company had a parent company called.... Bally! (this is all public knowledge)
Anyone remember who the big dawg was at Bally? [}:)]

If I won, I'd demand complete anonymity. No pictures, not names, no locations printed, spoken about, or whatnot. Then I'd pay off my parent's house for them (and they'd owe ME bigtime, instead of the other way around), then I'd buy a new car, a nice piece of land somewhere in Northern Wisconsin, build a house and a very nice workshop, complete with tools, and then I'd start making my truck what I want it to be. Oh, yeah, I'd probably stay in the Army, just for the heck of it. 0 -
I went to the origional link and read all five pages, fairly fast, I'll admit, but I did not see where it said that he was broke.... 0 -
The wife's BIL sells boats. He says lotto winners are the worst credit risk there is.
Our neighbor's mom and her husband won the lotto(4 million) about 10-12 years ago. Before the lotto they would sit around and drink and fight. Now they get $164K a year and sit around and drink and fight.0 -

You don't get that with the lottery. Look at the disclaimers, and you'll notice that by purchasing a ticket you agree to promotional activities (read, pictures, names, etc.) as determined by the lottery commission. This is true of any lottery that I'm aware of, except the Nigerian ones, where you are simply being a good citizen of the world.
FWIW, I'd buy a few homes, and buy all the guns I ever wanted, and I'd gosh-darned guarandamntee you that I'd have privacy.
And, FWIW, my next door neighbor from Florida won the Florida lottery about 12 years ago. He was a nice guy, but totally bankrupt prior to winning. Last I heard, he wound up buying some island.0 -
If the average American spends %4 more per year than he earns, it is pretty obvious what a winning lottery ticket will do. 0 -
A lady from my town won like 4 million, and bought an auto dealership. She didn't realize that inventory didn't come with it. Add a million dollars worth of new home & furnishings inluding hundreds of thousands of dollars in designer teddy bears, and she was broke in under a year.

Sounds like he is broke now. Still a cover up?
