What is Gun Broker policy on shill bidding?
Dose it happen? Who cks to see that it dosenot happen ? Being new i have found this site to be a great site but saw a post that seemed to say hey bud i just bumped your auction price up.

If a person was having an auction for an item and listed a starting price for $1.99 with no reserve. the item is worth around $15-20 They recieved a bid and no others bid on the item. Then the seller of the item says he is not selling the item for $2.00 and removes the item from the auction and cancelles all bids.
My question is, shouldnt he be held accountable for his auction? And shouldnt he have to sell the item to the person that placed the bid even if it was for $2.00? Again he set no reserve.

I continue to be amazed every time I go to a gun auction. Or any auction for that matter.
Friday afternoon I saw a .40 caliber Hi Point sell for $125 plus 10% buyers premium plus 6.5% sales tax.
That's $145.63!
A Colt 1862 Police Percussion Revolver that was BROKEN IN TWO went for $900!
A Star model Super A sold for $325
A Star Model BM with a cracked grip sold for $275
A refinished Walther P38 byf 43 pistol with fading gold plated trigger, hammer, and take down lever went for $500.
A run of the mill P1 pistol went for $300.0 -

I do not understand why there are many fine firearms on this site that never recieve bids. I know for a fact that there are at least three right that are on auction with a buy now price much less then MSRP. Why is it that noone bids on these items? 0 -
I have some rolling block actions I want to sell but all the auction sites I go to require a credit card to be listed with them.I dont have any credit cards asnd dont want any as I pay as I go.Are there any auction site that dont require a credit card or is there a way to put some thing on Gunbroker without a credit card. 0 -

Make sure that the auction company
advertises your guns plenty of time

Believe it or not. Most of the time you can buy a firearm on the auction side cheaper then any gun store in my crap hole State. That is the real auctions not the for sales posing as auctions. I saved $160 on my Kimber, even after shipping and FFL charge. One store that normally has the lowest prices had a MN 91/30 for $260 and it was a plain jane 1944 that someone looked like they used it to stir chili with.
Hearing how everyone talks about the auction side make me want to move to a different state.0 -

I was referring to a live auction that I went to this weekend in Topeka KS. I have no gripes with the auction side of Gunbroker.0 -
While I have seen guns bring outrageous prices there is always the flip side to that - the real bargains. Here are some that I got over the years:
Stevens Favorite 22 for only $75
Marlin 39M 22 Carbine in very good condition for $135
S&W model 17 (that had been ANIB before all the folks inspecting the guns at the auction handled it) for $1750 -
The last gun auction I went to, I saw a 629 fo for a grand total of $400.00, but some Mac-9 look-alike went for over a grand. Some good ol' boy must've thought that Mac was a real coyote-gitter! I couldn't believe how little the good ones were going for and how much the crap was selling for. 0 -

Bigtire - I have been to (I believe) the last five Topeka semi-annual auctions but had to miss this one. This weekend was the statewide youth deer hunt. Took my youngest hunting instead of going to Topeka. I went to the Rock Island back in September instead. Back in April, the Topeka sale was not near as interesting for me (God, I didn't think they were ever going to get through with all that ammo). I got the catalog and there was more items that i would have been interested in this year, but it was not to be. Do you know what the Browning B80 and the two A5 20's went for? I was also interested in the engraved Smith 27, the Smith 520 and the Rem 700 222 w/leopold. Were most of the winning bidders the absentee bidders again? 0 -
Engraved S&W Model 27 went for $1200
Lot #129 Browning Light 20 went for $575
Lot #132 Browning Light 20 went for $1250
Lot #119 Rem 700 in 222 w/ Bushnell went for $550
Lot #456 Browning A5 Magnum 20 went for $1050

Many absentee bidders and a lot of phone bidders too. They again would start out with an absentee bidders high bid only to have noone bid against them. Really screws the absentee bidder! They might have been able to get it for much less but the auctioneer figures they are not there to complain. Absolutely unethical if you ask me.0 -
Regarding the absentee bidders, I agree they are screwed pretty heavy. But, I also look at it from the fact the auctioneers have an obligation to the seller to try to get the most for them. The absentee bidder is at a huge disadvantage because, in theory, the auctioneer is basically using a "ghost" shill bidder to run up the price on the absentee bidder. Again, that is why I will never be an absentee bidder at this particular auction.
BTW, thanks for info on the guns. They all went over what I would have paid. If you go next time, let me know and we might try to get together for a nice steak. A buddy of mine usually makes the trip with me.
Have you been to a Rock Island auction in Moline, Illinois? Complete different level of guns at the premier auctions. Really enjoyed it - got to see some stuff that I probably will never get to see again. Even bought a few[}:)][}:)][}:)]. Colt Z40, Colt Peacekeeper 22, Colt Trooper 22, Ruger 77 220 Swift, Dan Wesson 22 pistol pak, Winchester 1885 Low Wall 150th anniv in 17 hmr, Win 94 Oklahoma Diamond Jubilee, and my best deal, a Ruger Mini 14 Ranch w/folding stock, bipod, scope, (5) 10 rd clips, (8) 30 rd clips for right at $400 (after tax/premium).0
