How gun control could have changed the outcome
It couldn't have, plain and simple. The kid was here on a student visa which shows that he illegally acquired the guns that he used. If we had more restrictive laws, he would have done the same thing. My local radio station is saying that in order to get a gun in this country you should have to go through a process similar to a drivers license. In my opinion if someone wants to kill people, they are going to do it. If we didn't have guns, he would have used a knife, bow, etc. You can't put a ban on knives and bows, so how would gun control help at all. Comments? Is my way of thinking not reasonable?

As I said on another thread: outlawing all guns would stop crimal shootings to the same degree that outlawing drugs has stopped all criminal drug use. Tons of illegal drugs are smuggled into this country every year. Why would the anti gunners think that tons of illegal guns would not be smuggled in as well. 0 -

Do they think people without drivers license s do not drive.
There are thousands of un licensed drivers on the road.0 -

Because the anti gunners are dumb slimes.0 -
He was a "legal resident alien" which I believe ARE allowed to buy guns. 0 -
Banning guns simply would have made it harder for this guy to get a gun, and possibly more expensive, but certainly not prevented him from doing so.
Clearly what he did was premeditated. If he were motivated enough to murder 30 innocent people, he could have been motivated enough to acquire a weapon illegally.
Criminals purchase guns every day in the USA and everywhere else. Its supply and demand. Enough demand creates the supply.
Where gun control fell down yesterday was in preventing non-criminal civilians from carrying their guns legally on campus in VA.0 -

Or, barring that, he could've still spent an hour on line researching bomb-making, then another hour at Walmart buying what he needed to kill even more folks.
Again, the illusion of safety is what's being debated.0 -

Well heck, there are millions of other "items" that are smuggled into this country each year that are also illegal. And these "items" are of such that one would think it would be very difficult to smuggle them into the country and for them later not to get caught.
Illegal aliens. Millions of em' running around.0 -
No amount of gun control could of stopped him. It only would of took one person however to have a concealed pistol to have shot him end of story. If they only hit him in the leg hed been easier to find and a lot slower. 0 -
If he would have known that he was going to be shot at himself he probably wouldnt have started in the first place. Do the gun control idiots think that people didnt get killed until after the Chinese invented gunpoweder? Seriously, lack of a gun wont keep you from killing someone.
ps-the bastid had been here since he was 8. and he was 23. why wasnt he naturalized??0 -
Here is a source for some gun crime statistics.

I'm sure the gon control crowd will want to limit magazine size in Virginia to 10 rounds just like California. However, this wouldnt have done much to prevent the killings. Apparently he shot 60 people. That means he fired at least 60 rounds but presumably more. If he was llowed by law to carry 12-15 rounds in his magazine then he had to reload or re-clip at least 4 times, maybe more. If he had only 10 rounds clips he still would have had to reload or reclip approx 6 times. I really dont think it would have made any difference. 0 -
How long does it take to reload an average semi-auto,..........about 3 seconds! No, not much difference at all, if you are shooting at people hovering on the floor, and not coming after you. 0 -
I love it how the anti-gun fanatics use tragedies like this to push their own agendas! The bodied aren't even cold yet and they push the emotional plea on the wave that follows this type of thing! This person may have had the right to acquire a gun, but as I hear the serial numbers have been removed on these weapons so I suspect there's more to the story then what's out now. Just the fact that the guns serial numbers have been removed/obliterated puts the legality of ownership in question. But how many more laws do we need to control gun violents? I hear China is criticizing the U.S. and its "gun culture" for the violents! ..The same govt. that created the Tiananmen Square massacre! Ask the people at Waco & Rudy Ridge WHY U.S. citizens NEED the right to keep and bear arms! 0 -
I'd like to know what nitwit or group
of nitwits passed a law stating one can purchase
a firearm as long as they have a greencard.0 -
Some nitwits that we allowed to be elected,.......that is for sure. Don't blame the laws on someone else,.......we are responsible also. 0 -
I was watching Katie Couric's coverage of the shooting. She was interviewing the owner of the gunshop where Cho bought the pistol. According to the gentleman who runs Roanoake(sp?) Gun Shop, all necessary paperwork was completed, and there were no "red flags" that went up. Since he was here on a student visa, he was required to show 2 forms of id. His two forms were a green card, and a state of Virginia driver's license. I think that it is unusual that he could obtain a driver's license in the U.S., being that he was just here on a student visa. On another television station, it was mentioned that a .22 Walther semi auto was also found. Does anybody know if it has been verified whether or not that gun was used during the shootings? I am just so dumbfounded. I can not really understand why a person would do that. What in the world is wrong with society these days? I don't know about the rest of you folks on here, but I think the end of days will be coming soon. It may not be in my lifetime, but I would not be surprised if it was. In the Bible, Jesus says that he will come like a thief in the night. Nobody will know the exact hour except for the Father, so everybody should be ready for his coming. The world will be in a time of war. It will come to be nation against nation; neighbor against neighbor; and fathers against their sons. That is how it is getting to be. In the words of gospel singer Rebecca St. James, "People get ready, Jesus is coming. Soon we will be going home." Sorry to get off on a religious rant, but yeah... 0 -
I understand that he has been here since he was 8 years old. Is that not Right ? 0 -

Not true. He moved here with his parents when he was 8 and was a resident alien. He could get a gun the same way that you or I could.0 -

Thats correct, his family owns a dry cleaning business (no surprise there). What we dont know is why, after all that time, he didn't become a citizen... maybe his parents didn't want him to integrate into American society. Who knows.0 -
ccw would have stopped it
but how many students think to arm themselves for real.
i mean were talking about 19 to 22 years of age
most never held a hand gun much less cc MABEY A TEACHER

The news on Yahoo right now is the rest of the world basically calling us dopes because of our lack of gun control. Also on how safe all these other countries are now.
I don't want to be compared with any of these other two bit, pansie a$$ countries. The media thinks they should be role models for us.
It's impossible. Most countries in Europe aren't as big as one of our average sized states. This country was founded differently. It is a melting pot. Too many different personalities and beliefs to satisfy all. So let us be free to decide what we want to do. We don't need restrictions.
What's funny is, yesterday morning, it was a complete non-issue. Hadn't crossed most of these people's mind's in years.
Then, all it takes is ONE resident foreigner, and the ENTIRE COUNTRY IS IMMEDIATELY CONDEMNED BY THE WORLD, including Britain, MEXICO! (lol) Canada, and Australia.
They need to live in their perfect worlds and mind their own damn business. I'll take my chances walking down the streets here any day!0
