30-06 to .308 adapter
While searching through the archives, I saw a GB member mention something about an adapter that slips into the chamber of a 30-06 rifle that allows the gun to fire .308 rounds.
Does anyone know anything about these? Sounds plausible, but almost too good to be true

They aren't worth the trouble. They come out half the time, then you have problems. They do work when they are in the chamber, but you have to check between each round to be sure.
Better to shoot 30.06 in a 30.06 and .308 in a .308.0 -
I bought one years ago for one of my Garands. It got stuck in the chamber and I could not get it out with a broken shell extractor. Had to take it to a gunsmith to get it removed.
I agree with dheff.... shoot your .308 ammo in a .308 gun. After my fiasco, I went out and bought an M1A.0 -
I believe the Army was the first to try this, back in the 1950's. They never got it to work right, and actually had some dangerous mishaps occur from what I hear.
I figure if an organization with that kind of money and manpower can't do it then it probably isn't going to work.0 -

The gun I'd be using it on would be a bolt action 30-06, not a semi, so I'm less concerned with it slipping out of place than I would be if I was shooting it in a Garand.
I did find one company that is making new ones, instead of using the old Navy Surplus ones (Thanks for that link hobbyguy). Here it is, seems like a decent outfit if anyone else is interested http://www.mcace.com/adapters.htm
The reason I asked is because I still have about 200 .308 rounds that I no longer have a gun for. I also like the idea of being able to use a diffent caliber if I needed to.
That being said, I think I'll stick with the 30-06 without the insert. I might, however, pick up one or two inserts for a "rainy day" [;)]

Sell the .308 ammo right here on GB. Be enterprising!! Buy your wife/gf something nice with the money.
Then you'll have it easier when you tell her you are gonna get another gun. (Anyway, it sounds good to me)[:D]

Rack Ops, I attempted to buy a chamber adapter from MCA Sports for my 7.5 French a couple years ago. I got a hold of the guy in Alaska once, he said that website is actually old and the guy who owns it will not take it down. He quoted me a price for the adapter and said he would only take a check. I held off a few weeks and then attempted to call them back several times and only got a recorder.
Last year I ended up finding the adapter I wanted here on Gunbroker. The buyer took a credit card and transaction was very easy. Just FYI.0 -

I got it glued in (I used the black high-temp loc-tite), but have not fired it yet. The rounds seat okay as far as I can tell, it converted 7.5 French to 7.62x39. I need to go shoot a box of 7.62x39 through it and compare the accuracy, I've just forgot about it these last few months. My other two problems are going to be to get the ejector to work correctly, as the case rims are different than the 7.5 French, and also to see if I can get it to feed reliably out of the 5-round box mag. 0
