I don't say it because it sounds dumb. I also don't use the words weapon and firearm interchangeably.

    I never say assault weapon.
I call the firearm by the model designation the good manufacturer gave it.

"assault" is a behavior, not a gun. Let's remember that, and act accordingly."

I really don't care. some ppl don't like the terms "assault weapon" or "assault rifle" applied because they're afraid of "public opinion" being swayed far enough to lose their right to bear those arms. I don't recognize any right to take away the rights to bear arms, and I couldn't care less what anti gunners think. until they start stepping on my toes and actually try to take away my right to bear arms.

which leads me to the next point, the distinction between "assault weapons" and "assault rifles". "assault rifle" is a literal, descriptive term for a class of rifles. "assault weapon" is a popular term fabricated by anti gunners for the purpose of including whatever they see fit as not "allowable"; it also serves to insidiously besmirch the good name of an otherwise inanimate object with their frivolous blame.

so, I don't care what it's called. "assault rifle" would be correct. if you're an anti-gunner and you're calling it an "assault weapon" it makes me want to smack you upside the head.

I never use this term when talking about black military style firearms. It was first used by the liberal media back in the 70's and caught on. It is an arbitrary name of distinction that is used to put these firearms in a bad light. I bet Jim Zumbo wishes he never even heard of the name before, much less used it to put them down.

The term doesn't bother me in the slightest. It's like getting bent out of shape when someone says "sports car." Well, unless you're using it for sport, it's not really a "sports" car, is it?

I refuse to get defensive over that phrase because it hands the intiative over to the liberal gungrabber retards. If they know they can geet a rise out of us by saying "assault weapon", they know we'll be spending our time trying to correct their vernacular rather than concentrating on what's really important.

I hate the term and think it is a made up term by those who want nothing more that to make guns sound scary and to take them from us legal gun owners!

I get bent out of shape when you call something a "sports car" that's not. It is a sign of ignorance, and I don't have much patience with ignorance. Especially when it's deliberate, as in the case with the liberal media who calls every black gun an "assault weapon."

I don't mostly like put together words with no real meeting, like "spin meister", and many many others.

I don't use the term - I use AR15, AK, FN. The term is just too generic and meaningless.

Is my K-Bar an assault knife ??

How about my new(to me) Enfield Jungle Carbine ??

I also try not to get involved in face-to-face discussions of the term.

Nothing says "I enjoy inhaling pig flatus on a hot summer day" more than using the term assault rifle.

Not a term I use. It has no real meaning.

Considering that there is no such thing as an assault weapon, I don't use the term, unless to redicule someone using it.

An "assault weapon" can include many things aside from a firearm. It can include a tire iron, a golf club, a baseball bat, your fist, a knife, rope, vehicle, toilet seat, etc., etc., etc.

Just because the label says mustang does not mean it is a real mustang.

There is no such thing as an "assault rifle" There can be a rifle that is used to "assault" someone.
same as: there is no such thing as a sniper rifle. A sniper is a person that uses a "hopefully" accurate rifle to "snipe" or kill covertly.
Assault is a left wing term used to beat the drum and garner support from ultra liberals.

I always try to take the time to help people understand the difference when I hear them use the term, assualt rifle. Most folks will simple parrot the media and anti-gun culture and they have no knowledge of firearms or what a true assualt weapon is supposed to do. Ignorance is our biggest enemy among the city dwellers!

Many that I correct don't really care either, they just hate guns and continue the spin to demonize any gun![:(] They will call a single shot 20 ga shotgun an assualt weapon if it will advance their personal agenda![:0][:0]

in my terminology of weapons you don't assault someone, you assault a position [;)]
I suppose Patton and Zhukov are ultra-liberals because of all those assaults they planned against Nazi-held territory [:D]

to me "assault weapon" is a political term; it also makes no sense since anything can be classified a weapon an "assault weapon" can be anything from and assault rifle, to an assault gun (German self-propelled arty), to a bayonet.

assault rifle is however perfectly legitimate because it was coined to describe a new type of military arm when the MP-44 was redesignated Sturmgewehr-44.

The story goes that it was named "machinen-pistole" (machine-pistol) because Hitler threw a fit and ordered that no more rifles were to be designed, so the weapon was disguised in manufacturing and procurement as a machine-pistol (which it clearly was not).
When Hitler finally found out about the "new rifle" it was redesignated Sturmgewehr (translated by meaning it means assault rifle, since sturm can mean storm or in military use assault) since it did not really fit the classical description of either a rifle (gewehr) or "machinen-pistole". At least they did not call it a machine-gun "machinengewehr" like civilians call anything that fires full auto.

I think for the general public the use of assault weapon has been thier only education. That education has come from the media. We need to take the time and educate them better. I think with proper education, the fears of the assault weapon instilled in to them by the liberal media will be qualled. I have seen a change in heart with the average joe once i take the time to explain the difference between reality and the media lable of assualt weapon.

I have an assault chair, assault fork, assault computer monitor, assault filing cabinet, assault very heavy ash tray, etc. I am sure each one of them can be classified as a weapon if used properly. All of my rifles are for target shooting, hunting and an extreme case of self-defense.
