Great New Referrence Book.Mausers
Hey folks. I'm not over here often, but I wanted to say something about a book I just recieved in the mail. Jim Wingate's "Mechanical Variations of the Mauser Bolt Action Rifles" came to me in the mail after we corresponded regarding a rifle he had up for auction. I have Ball's book, and Olsens of course and a few others regarding markings atc. and this volume is intended to be used as a supplement to them. Jim's well thought out and put together book is really a guide to collecting and ascertaining different mechanical variations of guns that even the most experienced of us have a hard time telling apart sometimes! He is selling most of the guns used to do the pictures (this book is 500+ pages, BTB)here on GB under the name Love7x57 (he is currently offering a Polish Warsawa 1930 and a post war czech K98. I am just getting into the book, but have already had a few eye openners! Jim's writing style also lends a bit of humor to an otherwise dry topic with his irreverant wit. We've all been screwed trying to build our collections, and I think Jim's book is an excellent way to avoid making many of the standard collecting mistakes many of us (yeah...me too)tend to make! I am one of those people that assumes he will quit learning upon his last breath, but this one may relieve some of that memory capacity so I can concentrate on things like well, my family, and STILL have a great time collecting these great old guns and avoid getting hosed in the process!
Anyway, this is not an adverstisement so much as it is a heads up for those of you who also enjoy collecting these great rifles, so that you can avoid getting hosed! So, look it up on Amazon if you like...and ask me any questions you would like regarding the book. As I get further into it, I will happily relate my feelings on how effective it has been for me. Cheers from Darkest Illinois (AKA Rod and Richies personal fifedom, or just Hell for short).
