One thing bugs me!
All of you seem to be patriotic but all worship the ak? You hold it up there with having the best in your collection? WHY?

In The Wrath of Kahn the humans explained to Mr. Spock that they could admire Kahn and simultaneously find his actions dispicable.
The fact that Kalishnakov was a Russian in no way takes away from the functionality of the rifle he designed; it works well even when poorly maintained.0 -
Collecting old military rifles has nothing to do with being Patriotic!
I personally have more old soveit rifles than I do old American rifles mostly because they are so much less expensive.
As for the AK, Yes I feel that it is a better battle rifle than the AR/m-16. Mainly because it is sure to go bang every time the trigger is pulled and it has alot more kill power!
The M-16 tends to jam when they get dirty (which it will get dirty when taken into battle)!
I will not deny that the M-16 is more accurate! Expecially past the 200yard mark. But most combat situations happen under that 200 yard mark so this is usually a wasted point.
Bottom line: Gun collecting is about guns and not where they came from!0 -
$450-$650Ak / AR $900 and up. Now compare quality and function. If Ar's where in the price range of $400 to $600 you would see more in everyones collection. 0 -
Blasphemy ... maybe.
Unpatriotic ... not.0 -
I think its the same gene working that makes me like Ramen noodles....they are .10 cents a pack...mmmmmmmmmmmmm. 0 -
Patriotism is not to be confused with ethnocentrism. 0 -
You're a very lucky fellow if only one thing bugs you.

Patriotism that makes you blind to logic is called fanaticism. 0 -
Well I think I am ok. I have 2 AK's, but I make up for it by having 6 AR's [:D].
Are people that have Mauser action rifles bad since they were made by the Germans?0 -

Personally I can see no better tribute to the US than our using guns made by our one time enemies as target rifles, hunting rifles, etc. We got all their stuff, man. We won. To the victors go the spoils. Giving an objective rating to the strengths and weaknesses of an arm or weapon is in no way unpatriotic. Guns, planes, tanks, etc. Let's face it, the AK is superior in reliability, the AR in accuracy. Just like the Sherman was superior in reliability and maneuverability, but inferior to the Tiger in armor and firepower. 0 -

I would venture that the Sherman's main superiority was numbers0 -

...I don't own one, and never will, but the original AK was a work of genius, along with Stoners M.
...Collecting/buying/apreciating a gun for it's functionality, which the AK while not exactly anywhere close Stoners M in accuracy, makes up for in durability and ability to take abuse and still function; if you want to look at it that way.
...I have a couple of Russian military rifles fit finish is puke, right out the arsenal doors, but they are fairly accurate and I have no doubt would take a tremendous amount of abuse, and still function properly. They were designed/built to be used and used hard, not admired.
...Since I won't be slogging thru any rice paddy's or desert's, I prefer accuracy over the "durability/punishment" part...[;)]

OK now I know "thanks"! [:D] 0 -

Do you drive a Yugo ??

practical, useful, simplicity at its best !! [^]0 -
While I did my patriotic duty Uncle Sam conditioned me to deprive the ememy of manpower and resources. Capturing a AK would get you a "attaboy" and was a good thing. Then they would take it away from you.[:(!][:(!] I prefer a M1A as first choice of a long gun but a AK or SKS is a combination of a trophy and a $#&k @*# to all involved in trying to take them away. 0 -

"There just ain't no better rush than killing the enemy with his own freaking gun"0 -
Are you jealous? They are fine rifles and a great design. Please do some research on this. Just to make you feel better- I am also a fan of American military rifles. I never met a gun I did not like.

+1....nice collection you got there, and would still be nice with a few AK's0 -
My VCR was made in China and so was my AK. Heck, 100% of the crap I buy from Harbor Freight is from China, but I only buy American gasoline and oil!
It is a fun little toy.
There is some admirable attributes to Kalishnakov's design. I might even dare to use the word "Heuristic". Plus, by making the design virtually public domain has helped accelerate it's popularity.0 -
Here is my favorite AK. I havent seen any Stoner design like this yet.
YEAH that is 12ga.0 -
