a new reality show..."Can this Gun be Saved?"
the jobs i get lately seem to be all basket cases that real shops turn away!
This weeks contestant just asked "can you fix this and make it nice again?"
and yes this is all he has...dads gun, so sentimental is a big part of it...
whatta ya think?

yea im doin it, just a sucker for neglected guns i guess. found most of the parts already, wait for the shipping and then start in in ernest.

    uim learning by doing, lucky enough to have an old gunsmith local who is slapping my fingers when i f.u. lol
    but i already had a mechanical and steel working background as well as a lot of years doing different woodwork

    When we bought this older little horse ranch in 1995, there was a hidden compartment behind the frezzer. There were some old rusted double barrel rabbit ear shotguns and this pistol in there. The pistol is'nt worth restoring I dont think..

    Old Magics....I don't know that I could put the effort you do into something like that one. I know it is a "special one" to someone....but knowing you can get one in decent shape for as cheap as these guns are....makes me think they should just stop the damage from getting any worse and buy a similar gun in great shape as a "comparison peice" to display together.

    I've seen it done many times. A worn out junker that was owned by a loved one....cleaned up to preserve what is left and a perfect gun of the same kind displayed together along with a picture of the person who owned the worn out gun. I haven't any clue what it is like to have a gun worth $100 that doing $200 worth of work to is called for. I'm not saying anyone is wrong for doing this....but only that I haven't been put in that position yet...so I may not understand this much.

    You do such WONDERFUL work also.....seing what you can do....I can see you working on the top of the line items as a rule very soon with little time for much else. I know of several "restoration" people that charge a premium for their work and have a back-log of work.....and they aren't anywhere near as good as you. (I'm a big fan of your work!)

    lol dont get me started tryin to get ya to send those ole mule ears...a real soft spot for me, love those things! i have one i have to make new spring and stock for that i found along the A.T.
    rusted at the breech and mud wasps closed up the muzzle so the bore was good and the forstock was still there and semi-decent!

    the lil h&r wont be too awfull bad, looking at about $170-$200 total and one in decent shape went on the auction side for $142 just the other day. and the kid keeps "dads" gun for not much more money and all fresh.

    One of the doubles says "W B & CO BX" other says "BARKER" Their so rusted it's very hard to read!
    Any Suggestions?
