Hungarian PA-63?
Anyone have one? How do you like it, what about the caliber 9x18 is it good for self defence "I know anything is better than a rock" and how readily available is the ammo?

Here are answers to some of your questions.

Got one - Maks are much better. Some '63s have some pot metal
in them. Buy a Mak. The E. Ger. Maks have the best finish -
Bulgies are just as good & more plentiful. I have a number of them.

My wife's carry is a Bulgarian.
What a sweetheart.
Both of 'em.0 -
Most folks have nothing but good things to say about them, but mine is junk. Gritty, isn't reliable either. The CZ 82 looks to be a nice piece as well. 0 -
Mine functions fine. Nice little carry gun. Slightly better than a 380. 0 -
I got rid of mine and moved up to the Firestorm by Bersa no comparsion. 380 both and the PA had twice the felt recoil the Firestorm has. 0 -
I bought one last year, does evrything very well except one thing, it has the strongest double action trigger pull I've ever come across. I'm going to trade it off because of that. 0 -
I keep one as a living room gun. Recoil is stiff and DA trigger pull is aweful other than those 2 complaints I like. In SA I hit the target and it's seems reliable enough. For the $150 I paid for it I have no complaints.
Thinking about getting another one for my basement workshop.0 -
Great little pocket pistol if you're 6'8"[:D], but mine runs great. Only disappointment is the mag springs take a set after about 4 weeks of being loaded, and the rounds just fall out the end.
DA trigger pull on mine is an honest 14 pounds!
Then again, remember what its' intended purpose was; point shooting close-up.0 -
I'd disagree with bigtire on this.
9x18 is much, much punchier than 380.
Makarovs are decent. I had a fine '63.0 -
i own one and love it. it will also be my carry once i get my ccw.
everyone i have talked to says it is a very reliable pistol, good quality gun. since i bought it, i have put over 500 rounds through it. i know, not a lot, but i've only been able to take it out sporadically. every round has been one smooth shot after another.
of the several makers of ammo, the one i was disappointed with was silver bear. all flash and bang, no performance. winchester recently released a 9x18 95 grain round. runs through very solid and fun to shoot. good round for defense. wolf ammo, while good in most guns, is not prefered for the pa-63. spec designs are for 95 gr or lighter. wolf is a higher grain and can damage the gun.
i think the link was already posted but try www.makarov.com. very knowlegable and trust worthy people there.0 -
Decent surplus gun for the price! 0
