Flying question
Ok, I'm most likely going to be flying this summer. I'm working in Minnesota and my brother is getting married the end of June and I'm the best man.
What do I need to keep in mind as far as the little things that someone who's never flown wouldn't know?
How long ahead of the flight time should I get there? What paperwork do I need? What items, like knives, scissors, etc, should be left at home?

Currently you want to be at the airport 2 hours before the flight is scheduled to leave. If you are in a small airport, less lead time will work, if you are flying out of LA the full 2. If you book on line you will be ticketless and can print out your boarding pass the day before. Check the airline website for the carry on dos and don'ts. No knives, guns, sharp stuff, small quantities of liquids etc. All subject to change before you fly. It is a minor PIT but not a big deal. 0 -

You'll need photo ID and a boarding pass to get to TSA screening. If you bring a laptop with you it will need to come out of the bag to be scanned. Plan on having to take your shoes off. Don't wear combat boots that lace up to your knees! Lighters are still a no-no, however you can carry matches on board. Buy any refreshments you'll want for the flight after you clear security. 0 -

They'll be online, most likely through cheaptickets.com. They have the best deal that I can find.0 -

Do not carry anything you can not toss in the can and walk away from other than cash,ID,and ticket.Everything else goes in your check in bag.If you are worried about anything that you need to carry with you ,have a self address stamped envelope ready to go with you folded in your pocket to mail back to your self on the spot.Happend to me on a trip and was late for a flight and had to toss my brothers wedding favor in the can, it was not much but it ment a lot to me. 0 -

don't play with you bullets, powder, primers, guns, ect.

Check the TSA's website for their latest rules a couple days before you leave. The rules seem to change frequently.
Don't lock your luggage except with a TSA-approved lock: TSA will just break the lock. Put your name and address inside and outside your case.
Valuables are much more likely to disappear from checked luggage these days, probably because so much more checked luggage gets opened. Keep valuables in your carry-on.
Travelling with fire-arms comes with a host of rules.
If you're flying out of MPLS airport and it's not a heavy travel weekend, you can probably get away with being 60 minutes early for your flight. I usually try to be 90 minutes early at that airport.0 -

If you have trouble keeping your pants up without a belt, wear a rope for a belt or make sure you wear a belt with no metal in it. No joke. They will make you take it off. 0 -

First thing you need to know is that stewardess are there for YOUR pleasure. Most of them are raging sisters and will hook up on the slightest whim. Trust me. Just ask them if they would like to get a drink later at the hotel. Dont take no for an answer.0 -

Don`t try and take off from your roof.Start by running across your yard and flapping your arms. Pay no attention to the neighbors funny looks.Take short trips at first and build up your strenght. That should do it. Oh,and watch out for power lines.

MOST of the above is good advice. Get there 2 hours before flight time. Govt issued photo ID in wallet. E=tickets work fine. There is CHECKED baggage, and carry on. No locks except TSA approved, name and address on bag. SMALL quantities of liquids/gels OK in carryon as long as 3 oz or smaller, packed in a one qt ziplock bag. No lighters or sharp instruments on you or in your carryon. Up to 4 packs of safety matches OK in carryon. TSA.gov has more info. Shoes will come off. Leave your 3 lb rodeo buckle at home. Aisle seat over the wing is the best. VERY few flights still feed you (other than a pack of pretzels and a Coke). Airport food has gotten better, but pricy. Leave half the crap at home- most people overpack. I had 6 flights last week- briefcase and small gym bag. Bring a paperback or magazine. Traveling with guns is a whole 'nother thread. Leave the chainsaw, cordless drill, and Coleman lantern at home (yeah, people have tried it) Wear your seatbelt whether the sign is lit or not- it CAN get bumpy without warning. Enjoy the flight. 0 -

Those things won't alarm.
If they did no one could fly after the 4th of July.
If you do go to the range check really close for empty casings in your cloths.
That Will get the TSA's attention.
